I think this is my best piece. I made this for my girl and I think she liked it.

I used pencils and a sharpie! :dummy:

Hi, <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>Jmotes: <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="25" height="20" alt="" title="Hi!"/>
I am here to critique this piece for the second <img class="avatar" src="a.deviantart.net/avatars/f/e/f…" alt=":iconfeedbackfrenzy:" title="FeedbackFrenzy" /> contest. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/e/e…" width="18" height="15" alt=":eager:" title=":eager: by darkmoon3636"/>
Please remember, that these are my opinions only. There is no right or wrong answer. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" title=":) (Smile)"/>
I’d like to start this critique off with –
PANDAS ARE SUPER CUTE! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/l/l…" width="19" height="19" alt=":la:" title="La la la la"/>
- Sorry about that little.. outburst, I don’t know what just happened. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="16" alt="" title="Blush"/>

Moving on - I was saying, that I would start off with saying how well done I think this is! There are a lot of little details such as the little wrinkles by the left thumb (left as in left hand), but still you manage to keep it super clean and simple. The lines flow effortlessly through the frame leading my eyes, and it’s an absolute joy seeing how you pulled it off. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c…" width="20" height="20" alt="" title="Clap"/>

Another thing to mention is your use of gradients. I assume this is done with charcoal? I tried using charcoal once, and I thought it would be easy, but was I wrong. It was a mess.
You have, on the other hand, mastered this skill. Even if it’s not charcoal, you have still done the shadowing so convincing, that you had me believe it was.

I’m trying to look for anatomy-mistakes, but I can’t really find any. I’m trying to curl my hand up in a similar pose, but to no use, really. It’s spot on.

One thing – and it’s really not a big deal – I’d like for you to crop the image, maybe as a square. I think that would fit the illustration nicely. Do you have Photoshop or another similar program?
Photoshop is great at “cleaning” your drawing. You can use simple tools to remove little grey “stains” in the background of your image, so the lines will pop out. I assure you, it will look great!

One more thing, did you scan this picture, or did you take a picture of it? Because I think the quality is great, and most scanners really ruin traditional drawings.
I’d like to end this critique by complimenting you for your use of symbolism. The heart in the middle is great, and it looks like it belongs there. It follows the lines of the left thumb. It’s so simple and so great, that it could be a tattoo-design.

I know you did the line in the heart to show how the palms are touching, and that’s very good! It just leads me to think along the lines of “broken heart” and “shattered love”, but I don't assume that is the meaning at all <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>

Over-all this is (as you probably know by now) great, and it’s a job well done. It caught my eye instantly.

Hello *Oniendra!

YUSSS. PANDAS ARE THE BEST. :dummy:

Thank you!! I was aiming for a clean, simple look so the viewer could have their different interpretation could be different depending on the viewer. As you said, the line through the heart could mean a broken heart which didn’t even occur to me at the time!! Another deviant summed it up pretty well with her interpretation of love being simple, unified and shared between two people. Aw, thank you! :aww:

Well, I’m not really clean with charcoal either! XD I’m pretty messy. My mediums for this were a fine point Sharpie pen (not the skinny kind), a pencil, color pencils and tissues (to make the blended colors).
Thank youuu! :iconlovelyemoteplz: I guess it does look like charcoal after a while of analyzing it. But when I usually use charcoal I’ll have way more stuff to keep my area clean, I’ll usually put a paper under where my arm sits on the paper so it doesn’t smudge. I HATE IT WHEN IT SMUDGES..
Thankk you! :iconlovesqueeplz: This especially is a good thing for me because I really didn’t have anything to guide for with this! I just had to go with what I knew about hands! And believe me, that was the hardest thing about this drawing.

Hmm. I thought the negative space kinda contributed to the image, I added a little darkness to the backgrounds as you can see to add more effect to make it look better. Sadly, I don’t. :sadummy: The grey lines weren’t there when I drew it, so I’m assuming that it came while I added the darkness effect around the edges? I’ll try to do the cropping but I’m not sure if you want it completely zoomed in or a way where it still has a negative space but at a smaller quality.

Oh, I took a photo of it. Scanning never works well for me; it usually highlights the wrongs in my piece rather than highlighting the good parts.

Aww, shucks I’m running out of thank you’s to say! :giggle: I’m glad the heart fits well in the picture! I had to experiment a little before actually getting it right. That would be a pretty cool tattoo tho!!

Yeah, it leads to thing the palms are touching but as I said before. It could be either or! I mean the atmosphere around the piece is pretty neutral so it could be sent to the viewer as negative or positive!

Thank you for spending your time to critique this!

First of all, thanks for the long answer :O And thanks for the watch as well.
Yeah that was my Charcoal-Problem too.. Smudges.. :rage:
Actually, the thing I've heard most people complain about when I used to draw, was hands. No one was able to draw hands (me neither).. So I'm very impressed. There were a looot of hand-toturials, because people really needed them. xD

You don't have to crop it; it's just my opinion :) But you are right - there is probably a different feel to the different croppings :)
It would be a cool tattoo! :D Did you have some inspiration to draw it or did you just freehand it as you came along? :)

Hey, you gave me a long critique so why not a long answer. :dummy:

You're very welcome! :tighthug:

It is pretty hard to master the skill with getting little to no smudges on your artwork. :grump:

Yeah, those hands were a heartache. I wish I did have a guide to go by so maybe it could be a little bit better.

Well hey, it's advice to make my art better. Why shouldn't I try it and see how it works? :dummy:

Well, a little inspiration as I was drawing this for my girlfriend. :happybounce:

She better have been real happy about that drawing! :D
Well you can try to crop it and see how it looks. It might not look good, but in my head it does :D
Sometimes what's in my head and reality don't really match..

She was. :dummy:
I'll try to when I have the time on my hands because I feel as it will look good also. :la:
Haha, same for me. XD
