Coonhound by iceiwynd Coonhound by iceiwynd
Two weeks ago or so, my mom asked me to draw her friend's Coonhound, Turner, for her. I'm only getting around to uploading it now 'cause I feel like it.

Worked on a different colouring style here. I like it and I'm probably gonna do more things similar to it in the future.

I have nothing else to say - there isn't much. Never drawn this breed before, though. It was fun. I looove their ears.

That's my coonhound right there! Her eyes really do look like that.

Everyone else has already praised the colouring texture here to high heavens and I thoroughly agree with their assessment. :) I love the blotchiness of your shading and how his tan markings seem to glow from the black. Coonhounds are indeed lovely dogs and fun to draw.

That said, I'm not gonna lie, I am severely creeped out by those eyes. I don't know whether this is just a personal thing with me or not, but I would say that if you've got a dog in a realistic style, giving it humanish eyes = creepy. (The poster for the recent remake of the Shaggy Dog scared me for the same reason.) Real dogs' eyes don't look like that, and it just really disturbs me to see human eyes in an otherwise realistic and gorgeously painted animal's face. Still, nobody else seemed bothered by it, so possibly I just look at dogfaces too much and get too used to the natural look. xD Also, if you meant it to look that way then by all means ignore me.

Oh wow, I absolutely am LOVING the coloring texture on this! I didn't even realize it was yours at first, but it just goes to show how much you can improve yourself! (and style jump) I almost feel like there could be a little more shading on the eyes, to fade them slightly into the skull, but then again, I adore the style, because it makes it feel children's bookish or paper cut out. It's darling.

That is amazing colouring. Seriously. The texture of the fur looks so soft and velvety that I just want to reach into the picture and pet it. You should definitely use this style for drawing animals because the realism and texture are absolutely rich and luscious. I love the look the dog is giving you, as if he's curious about whether or not you'll want to be his friend. (: Lovely work!

wow I can't come up with anything coherent (the equivalent of keyboard mashing is going through my head right now). It looks fantastic though :U
