I am an Animal Rescuer
My job is to assist God's creatures
I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection
I have bought dog food with my last dime
I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand
I have hugged someone vicious and afraid
I have fallen in love a thousand times
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count
I have animal friends and friends who have animal friends
I don't often use the word "pet"
I notice those lost at the road side
And my heart aches
I will hand raise a field mouse
And make friends with a vulture
I know of no creature unworthy of my time
I want to live forever if there aren't any animals in Heaven
But I believe there are
Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind
Some may think we are master of the animals
But the animals have mastered themselves
Something people still haven't learned
War and abuse make me hurt for the world
But a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind
We are a quiet but determined army
And we are making a difference every day
There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan
Nothing more rewarding than saving a life
No higher recognition than watching them thrive
There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play
who only days ago, was too weak to eat
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue
I have been rescued
I know what true unconditional love really is
for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many
Grateful for so little
I am an Animal Rescuer
My work is never done
My home is never quiet
My wallet is always empty
But my heart is always full

beautiful!
both Alex and your comment

did you bottle feed him? I had to do that once with a kitten (only one week old, the mother wouldnt take care of her kittens), but he was too young I suppose, and didnt make it..

I did bottle feed him and then he became addicted to the bottle and carried around everywhere even when it was empty, it was crazy.
Kittens need moms milk more than anything and few survive under 3 weeks, they need immunity from mama cat to fight off infections. I have lost so many at around a one week old, usually from mama cats who won't take care of them. Breaks my heart, I will give it my all but sometimes it's just not enough. Thank you.

yes it was a whole nest we had.. 9 kittens, and all off them died, one by one, because the mom neglected them (left them lying around, we would find one under the bed somewhere all cold and barely allive).
Eventually we had to take them away from her ofcourse, but like you say, they still really need their mother so we wanted to wait if she would start looking after them properly :(
Still makes me cry when I think about them.. they were so tiny and helpless, and you can't do anything to really help them at that age..

(I'm so sorry I'm pestering you with sad comments lately!)

Working with so many feral cats over the years I have dealt with many mama cats like this. Usually it's because the mama got pregnant too young but sometimes for no reason at all so it seems. One of my own cats went through the same thing, Mikey's sister Beep Beep, she died a couple of years ago but when she was younger she had babies and decided she didn't want to be a mom, luckily, I had another mama cat nursing her own kittens and I added them to that litter but we still lost 2 of them. Same as you explained about your cat, she was leaving them in odd places, when she was having them, she actually tried to run around the house with one still attached by the cord, very strange, I was freaking out, trying to catch her before she knocked the poor thing out.
Cats are so resilient, they can handle all sorts of things but not until they reach about six weeks old, up until then their little lives are very fragile.

Oh, and you are not pestering me at all, I promise.
