The Deathlings - Issue 1 p. 9

I'm trying something new with the previews... Instead of letting everyone read all of Issue 1, which would kind ofsoil the story, I will be showing some random pages every now and then from here out.

This page is proof that I really did put an entire page of two girls shopping in my macabre fantasy comic.

Please visit The Deathlings website for more! We update every Tuesday and Thursday with a webcomic preview of our book.

I really like how panel 4 has no background and the colour "spills" into the gutter. Nice way of keeping the page from being too cluttered, without subtracting necessary information.

Not sure about all the brown in that goth shop - black/grey with a few bright accents would have been a better choice, I think. I guess I say this because I strongly associate brown/sepia pages with "memories" in comics (did it myself once). But maybe you did go for a sense of melancholy here (especially considering what happens to Anne eventually), so I guess it's ok.

This color scheme works for me for two reasons... First, because it evokes a dark but comfortable underground place. Second, as you say, because the emotion becomes warmer and softer.

I really appreciate the feedback, though. It's great to see other people paying as much attention to the details!

I must say that being a bit of a metalhead myself, places where a lot of people simply wear black are most comfortable for me :) But I agree it's not necessarily the same for everyone, and maybe it doesn't translate well into comic form.

I do enjoy paying attention to details and seeing how fellow artists solve various "problems" posed by the story. Keep posting!

Haha, I hadn't thought of the Punisher connection-- just supposed to be a cute shirt with a skull.

Thank you. I'm just astonished I managed to get a team like this to work with me, especially on my first book.

Interesting!
But in the third panel (I guess that's what you would call it--I'm not much of a comic book reader) the girl with the pigtails and the striped shirt and skirt has really broad, manly shoulders.

The page looks great, your colorist has really put together a nice technique on this page. Looks almost water-colory ;)

Thank you. That's definitely the feel I wanted for this book, so I'm glad people like it that way.
