Description
A mock-up album design. I am practicing my design skills (limited) and putting together a sub-portfolio to demonstrate how well-suited my work is to album covers.
Imaginary Details:
Album Title: Anonymous Casefiles
Musician: Meta
Photographer: =ian-x (me)
Model and Make-up: Trespass
Original Photo: [link]
The photo suggestion and band name comes from ~weirdinnocence She tells the story of the band as follows...
Who or what is Meta? Nobody knows. Even their agent has never met them in real life, two typewritten letters being the sum of their correspondence. The band (if such it is) instructed her to donate all album royalties to a transhumanist organisation ([link]), leaving nothing for themselves. Meta's albums, allegedly recorded in the late 1980s, are released on predestined dates 15 years later; it is anybody's guess whether the band are still together. Or still alive.
The sonic landscape veers from Pink Floyd to Portishead via Porcupine Tree, and lyrics (when existent) are cryptic and unrhymed. Songs have a habit of trailing off in the middle as if their creator suddenly got bored. Nevertheless, Meta's devoted fanbase insist they find deep meaning in every song, even if they are unable to explain precisely what the meaning is. The project, they say (rolling their eyes), is an exercise in conveying the uncertainty of life to a world that thinks it knows everything.
Interestingly, Kylie Minogue has claimed authorship of the project. She stated it was an elaborate joke at the expense of the "pretentious idiots" who sneered at her Impossible Princess album - an unsuccessful attempt to win indie hearts.
