If I Break The Glass, Then I'll Have To Fly

A huge shout out to :devabubisgrl: for keeping me sane during the entire process of this and inspiring me to make this piece, as well as put time and effort into it. I love our talking breaks otherwise I would have collapsed from exhaustion from working on this straight. So thank you!

The title is actually a line from the song and is particularly what inspired me to give him wings. Which yes, they are dove wings~

Also, the scene is inspired by the music video, which features the violinist, Lindsey Stirling, inside of a snow globe type thing on a pedestal. Obviously Medic is now on the pedestal, but I changed the pose to something not so ballet. Inside of the globe in the music video is also a little dresser with a stool that matches the ballerina theme. I replaced that with Medic’s operation table and heart monitor. When Lindsey looks out into the world outside the globe, she is frightened by the bats flying by, but when they fly through the light it is revealed they are butterflies flying around the globe instead of bats. I just replaced them with Medic’s beloved doves~

Anyway, I put a lot of time into this one, especially with attempting to draw shattered glass, snow, and frozen over surfaces. I’m rather happy with these results, especially because of such a large canvas. The lineart alone took me an hour or two, which is normally the time it takes for a single picture. As you can tell, anubisgrl kept me from getting too frustrated with the piece and I can’t thank her enough for that.

Also, if any of you viewed my sketch for this, you’ll notice that there are a few changes between the draft and this picture. For one, I had to adjust some of the anatomy, make his arms thicker and larger hands. Also adjusted the angle he was holding the violin bow. Moved his one hand closer down the neck of the violin as well. But other than that, everything compares well!
