So, I was asked to make a journal on how to keep your art safe~
Here's my little tip:

Watermark your work.

It's that simple really.

If you don't already, watermarking your work is a GREAT way of letting other artists know who the work is by!
When watermarking you don't want to make the watermark so big that is ruins the work, but you also don't want to make it so small that either you can't read it or it is easy to remove. Also, you want to have the watermark recognisable, something that links back to your page/profile. Using your username, real name (though I wouldn't recommend it) or a picture/logo that is consistent and ties in with your username works well~
Again, when watermarking don't just dump it in the corner of your work, place it somewhere that is someone tried to remove it the work would be ruined. Dumping it in the corner means it can be easily cropped out in something like Photoshop!!

Oh, and if your art happens to be stolen, the watermark will help other artists report it back to you so the thief gets taken down so much quicker.
If you haven't got a watermark yet, use the dA watermark. You may have to fiddle with the sizes but in the long run it helps~

And that's all really.

I always write my signature on my drawings.

That's great to hear. Art theft can be pretty detrimental to the original artist.

Question:

How does one make a watermark with GIMP?

You could try just making a signature that's unique to you. That's what I did.

you could hand draw it with a brush or scribble a signature on a peice of paper, scan it in then slap it ontop :D

Oh now that would be great.... ^^;

....If I had the means necessary to upload traditional artwork. I don't, sadly. :(

But thank you for the tip. I'll be sure to remember that.
