Disney University - Triton's daughters by Hyung86 Disney University - Triton's daughters by Hyung86
I'll try to make Disney/Pixar characters in young and stylish concepts, some kind of "students", something like the new Pixar's Movie: Monster University.

Daughters of Triton
Attina, intelligent, astute and the older sister.
Alana, stylish, glamorous and full of energy (always protect her sisters)
Adella always lovesick and funny.
Aquata goofy and a little crazy (overactive ...)
Arista addicted to music and talkative (VERY
Andrina gluttonous and scatterbrained.
Ariel's sisters are part of the synchronized swimming team and they love fashion, music and the sea (of course ...)

Here you have your six (seven) brides waiting for their 12 princes of the southern islands ;)

Hope you like it!

I wonder if Ariel's sisters could have a much more supporting role for the live-action Little Mermaid

Dang, I forgot about the rest of Triton's family. I really like this photo, it's a great and creative way to incorporate/introduce Ariel into the school!

Ok, so I think it's interesting that the one deemed to be "lovesick" of the sisters is Adella, because in Spanish literature we read the play La Casa de Bernarda Alba, and the sister that is the most lovesick of them all is also named Adela.  Just a connection I made that I thought was interesting, and thought that I would share here.

So, I think I've discovered part of what bugs me about these. I mean, they are great, don't get me wrong. I think you do a very good job with copying the faces and some of your choices for their study paths and hobbies make me giggle. The problem is sometimes your design choices are a little strange to me (I like tattoos too but you are pretty heavy handed with giving them to characters), but really the big irk, most of the characters have little-head syndrome. These seven are a good example of it. Proportionally, most of them have very small heads compared to their shoulders and overall body width. On top of that, most of your girls are very thick in the waist. I don't have a PROBLEM with that necessarily, in fact I am eagerly awaiting the day Disney does a not-size-zero princess. But even some of these dresses that are meant to emphasize their shape, the girls just look boxy.

Its a really good picture and i like your series, your a very good graphic artist and the series is really intuitive. I always loved the little mermaid series as  kid and you've illustrated them really well.

i'm just ever disappointed however; by the lack of career drive, typical 'female' subject choices, and to be honest, underlying sexism of the Disney university series.

'brides waiting for their 12 princes...' what about 'women studying marine biology and fighting the war on coral reef depletion'? what about '7 sisters take on the geopolitics of oil spills and ecological disasters' Rather than just being members of the swim team.

I just would have liked to have seen the 7 sisters kicking some, rather than just being brides waiting to get married, can't they have a bit more to their characters than that?

I have a sister who's a marine biologist who's been fighting to restore the kelp forests of Southern California and she's married to an Italian-American computer geek/photographer/ski patrol volunteer from Staten Island!

But no kids.  None at all.  Maybe she's learned that humanity has to have term limits and let the oceans be the dominant biome of the Earth?

You shouls have added melody in the scene

Melody wouldn't even be born in this scene... you know that right?

maybe, is ariel was still 16 but she was 17 or 18 when she had melody

isn't that a bit young to have a kid? xD

Historically, it's about right, though. Girls would marry around sixteen if not younger and then have children before they were eighteen. In modern times, we know what a stupid idea it is from a physical stand point, but back then, women (even a woman in authority like a princess or other nobility) were expected to marry, produce heirs, and help with managing domestic affairs. That was their career path option.

(By domestic, it varied a lot by time period and rank. Some would just be concerned with the managing of the house via the servants or one their own, others were dealing with the lands surrounding the house as well, some helped with whatever the family business was if they weren't nobility and were part of the crafters, and then some dealt with the kingdom at large while their husbands were at war.)

Maybe Disney has been trying to suggest, if not condone, that this royal cycle of princesshood is the most sound and sensible way for women to live.  Anything else they can possibly do beyond their set limits would make life more complicated for everyone else.  That would make the concepts of royalty, marriage, and family obsolete.  We might as well live like the Chinese do today:  No families; only masters and peers; and childbirth permitted only by unanimous approval.

I remember watching this was I was little and being thrilled when the Daughters of Triton song came on because one of the sisters had my name. It was the first time I had EVER heard someone else with my name.
Oh my gosh! The Southern Isles reference got me squealing. La la la la
I love this, especially the outfits. The whole thing looks so colorful!
But the problem is that their heads seemed a bit small on their bodies.
It bugged me a little. Sweating a little...
Still, you done these fantastically as usual.

The list in the description names them in order from right to left based on age. :) Attina on the far right (oldest sister), Ariel being last on the left (as she is the youngest).
