Many scentists, of the first level, tried to classify the unicorn. But because no one had ever seen one, the declarations are often very spongy.
Some say it's a horse, others say it's a deer or a antelope (oryx-antelope).
All wrong.
Sometimes the simpliest solution is the right.
Unicorns are rhinos. Or rather, the last branch of the Hyracodontidae (known for the ginat Paraceratherium)

Unicornus indicus is, beside the nearly extinct Kirin, the last member of this family. In the antiques. During the antiquity, there were also a european and a african species.
The animals are very shy and good camouflaged. they live solitary and come only in the nights at the waterholes.

Do you have artwork for your Kirin?

The more I think of it the more I believe that the idea of a unicorn is much more believable then a giraffe, especially if you never seen a giraffe before.

I love your concepts!

It actually make sense, I remember reading that a relative of the woolly rhino, the elemansthra, excuse the spelling, was record as alive as of at least during the early part of Chinese civilisation development.

I really like this! It's fairly plausible (based on my negligible knowledge of this kind of stuff..), and I like how you turned the "rhinos are unicorns" into this! I really like the color pattern, too.

Cool. Wonder what Twighlight Sparkle and Rarity would look like with this design. And a pegasus can be a shoebill stork relative.

Vampires don't sparkle, aren't halfgods, can reproduce, like sunshine and aren't created by bites.

flying horses (or other flying mounts) are depitions of human dreams. ;)

I have always thought that it could be a rhino, I just never knew what type.

I really enjoyed the work you put into this. =) . To be honest, when I first saw this I thought that your depiction of the unicorn was related to the okapi with its coloring and body shape, but your description cleared that all up.

Sorry...

I like this unicorn concept, mostly on the brown-white color on it coat. Instead of the cliché of equine looking unicorn, you had decided to created the unicorn basing on the hyracodontid.

Thank you =D

I have plans for some extinct unicorns which look maybe a bit more classic but overall they will remain in this design =)

Könnte der Qilin ein Verwandter des Kubanochoerus sein?

Ne, das ist auch ein naher Verwandter des Einhorns, die Art ist aber inzwischen ausgestorben.
