It is too far of a stretch to base your fauna concept on a creature from South American folklore? I read the guidelines of the challenge and the first thing that came to mind is a boid snake based on Boitata, a fiery ghost anaconda from Tupi traditions.

I was wondering If I could ask you a question?

questions are always allowed

I kina asked it already but you didn't respond. Is the timeline similar to the last one aka only as far back as the miocene.

And multiple entries are allowed

Yes multiple entries are allowed in terms of the timeline, it's a little bit more difficult, but I will write something on that matter and submit it today.

Ok I intend to participate, I didn't last time because I didn't learn until recently.

Is it similar to the last one where all the fauna is limited to recent times or at max Late miocene age?

Another small question I have... is there any restriction on the number of creatures we can submit? For example... if I want to submit one species for each "biome", can I do it, while still expecting that likely not all of them will be in the final work? Or is it advised to be just one creature submitted per person?

EDIT: forget it... it states in the journal entry you can submit as much as you want :p

Excited to see this happen after how great the Skull Island one was! Hope this kind of collab contest becomes a regular Spectember thing. Caprona 2021! Shangri-La 2022!

QUESTION:

would large bats count?

Hyrotrioskjan's avatar

Large bats work, but they would need a reason to stay on top of the mountain, remember that.

Taliesaurus's avatar

of course....

maybe there's a specific type of food (fruit, seeds, corpses or fish or otherwise.) that they rely on... maybe they are extremely territorial with each other.

heck maybe they used to be all over the place but humans wiped most of them out and this isolated population survived because as you said, thee'll be no humans here.

i would need to figure it out...

when is the deadline?
