Cavinatrix (previously known as Cavivermis) is the last living member of the false river serpents, the freshwater sea serpents of the new world.
Beside their small size these aniamls (which live on the penisula Yucatan) are known for beeing trogolobionts.
They mostly live within the giant cave systems which openings are known as cenotes. Becuase of living mostly in the dark their eyesight isn't that well developed and so they mostly use their olfactory system and electro-receptors at the tip of their snut to find prey and mates.
Their diet consists mostly on fishes, especially blind cave fishes, but also crustaceans, reptiles and small mammels which come to the cenotes to drink, and waterfowl.

During the mating season (September) the females analic glands are swollen and produce sexual pheromons to attract males. Often more than one male find ist way into the hunting grounds of the female and violant battles between adult specimens aren't rare.

Aften three months the female give birth to one or two, just 28 to 32cm long, babies leave the mother after a few hours.

Edit: maybe you notice the claws at the hindlimbs of this species. It's a feature which is only known fom false river serpents. For a long time it was a mystery what they are used for until the mating bahavior of this shy animal was filmed for the first time, which showed that the males use them to cling at the females, not only to lose it in the dark but also to make it more difficult for rivals to seperate the couple.

What do you mean with story?

I mean how and in what circumstances did this creature come to be. As in the events that diverge this world from ours. It's a great concept!

Ah ok, you must know that the world of Cavinatrix is our world, they evolved under the same circumstances as we does.

The origins of this species in particular lay maybe 2 Million years back. There must have been a river, or lake dwelling species during this time, some specimens were isolated in a cave system which they couldn't left. Over the years they lost some of their pigments, became smaller and learned to nivaigate an hunt in the dark caverns under the rainforest.
