Description

Just a quick sketch of a Tanystropheus.

Tanystropheus ("long vertebra") was an enygmatic porlacertiform (by no means a dinosaur) reptile. It sported a neck that summed up half of its three meter-long body, composed in turn by eight to twelve very elongated vertebrae, which made it very stiff. It is still unknown the exact means this animal used to catch prey or wether it lived underwater, on land or if it led a semiaquatic lifestyle. As an interesting note, its very existence is said to defy the laws of physics, for its neck seems to be without any kind of counterbalance. Up until a recent discovery suggested it stored large amounts of flesh behind its hips ("serious junk un the trunk" someone called it). Such a backside would provide the animal with a much needed counterweight.
