Fractals: the union between math and art. Some might say that overtly mathematical fractals necessarily sacrifice artistry, but bifurcation theory, by ~hypertech, would prove them wrong. ( Featured by FarDareisMai )

Okay...?

Of course I only notice now that I spelled bifurcation wrong.

I need to figure out why spellcheck became disabled all of a sudden.

Ha ha, I tried that on an 8086 PC in 1988. This is much more pretty and I think it has been quicker to draw :-)

It looks like a feather.

I've always loved fractals and fractal art ever since I was a child. My dad would draw bifurcating "trees" and show me how to do them; this reminds me of that.

It's very beautiful, in no small part because I love the colors white and blue. It looks like a photograph of something very small, with an almost watery appearance.

very interesting. I'm not a big fan of fractal art but this piece is really visually pleasing and has a very calm and nice atmosphere.
my only complaints would be that the black line could be smoother (especially on the left) and that the first (biggest) 'intersection' looks a bit strange.

other than that, beautiful.
thanks for sharing it with us. :]

Bifurcation diagram of Logistic map. Logistic equation is used in biology to determine the behavior of certain populations in nature. And this represents some kind of stability analysis of the equations. It has a huge theory behind it. The diagram is time versus biological biomass. Every branch represents a stable existence of the population under consideration. I hope this explanation will be sufficient =P I know it is very technical but not for us mathematicians =P

This is quite abstract diagram, it can represent anything, even just solutions (its value and amount) of some abstract equation, not obligatory in biology. We've built it in univer at 'theory of chaos' subject =)

I know that not only in biology but this is the bifurcation diagram of Logistic map which used widely in biology. And no, this cannot represent solutions or their values =) Trust me on this ;)

Do you mean this is that concrete diagram? Maybe) I don't know biology XD
But in general case it's pure math)

Please I don't want to be a prick or something..but this is just a standard graph in a dynamical systems/chaos theory course. Its not like you have given a new interpretation to it and presented it in a different light. I don't understand where the originality is, in this piece.

There are a lot of such standard graphs in dynamical systems. Reproducing them here deserves a DD? I don't think so.

I instantly recognised this fractal from when I was a kid playing around with Fractint. It's called a bif+sinpi formula fractal in that program with default settings. I imagine it is pretty much the same in most fractal software. It looks nice though, for the millisecond or so that was required to create it.

I agree. I've seen this quite often, in different contexts, already.
This is the first time I do not see why a DD was given (though I've seen some deviations that I didn't like, but they were still good, regarding originality and deviousness); it is a standard graph a lot of people could reproduce.
But at least this made me have a look at hypertech's gallery, which has got some pretty awesome photography!

It looks pretty, I admit and also makes a nice wallpaper for my widescreen, but... If anyone would post an exponential spiral, that almost as difficult as this, see?

Hm, this has to be the first fractal work I've ever liked. It doesn't look like those typical fractals, it's very pure and minimal, sorta reminds me of close-up shots of soapy water, which I love!

I like the title too, it suits the piece.

I think I'm gonna have to fav this! Good work!

nice motive, but you ruined the image with a badly colour bending through the vignetting in the corners... GUess the image has a huge size and you worked either in a 8 bit colour space or did not add a noise layer to break the bending...If you want to sell that as a poster, please fix that...
otherwise simple but nice:)
