Summer of 1914

EDIT: please note this is an illustration for my original story set in a fictional universe. While the uniforms are somewhat inspired by their historical counterparts some of the details will vary.

One of my rare attempts out drawing an outdoor scene. I picked up a bunch of theory regarding landscapes over my self teaching years and I was curious to try my hand at drawing one. Because of the sheer complexity I had to make the entire drawing feel more 'loose', plus I had this nagging feeling that my work is starting to look overworked lately so I only put 12 hours into this one.

I tried my best to make Fritz look 18ish here, ever so slightly younger than my other drawings of him, sitting in a wheat field wondering whether he should regret his life choices, because don’t we all?

Those that have been following me for a while know about Fritz's backstory of how he decided to volunteer to fight in The Terrible War the day he turned 18, against the wishes of his family. He decided to not take advantage of his rank which would have enabled him to go to an officer school, he believed that if he was to earn a rank he would do it with his actions. But fate didn't allow him to serve in the war for long.... no, he didn't die, just committed a war crime
