Day 3 - Hermione Granger

Description

Third submission for the HBP character bonanza! [link]

So--Hermione Granger. This picture didn't come out at all like I had intended it to.

I am less than thrilled with it, but the more I fought it, the worse I made it, so I stopped. I'm not sure what fought me so hard on this. Maybe the head-on view of the head, maybe the foreshortening of the arm, maybe the dynamic, intense pose I wanted and utterly failed at.

The anatomy wouldn't cooperate, the shading and lighting I couldn't get right to save my life, and the clothing...well, the clothing didn't come out too badly, I suppose. It's not horrible, it's just not what I wanted, nor as good as I wanted it to be. :XD: Still, I have critique enabled if anyone happend to have some good advice for fixing said issues. :D

I was sorta of trying to incorporate Hermione's bookishness with her ability to fight. Hermione's not just a bookworm, she's fierce and brave, too, which I believe is why the Sorting Hat ultimately but her in Gryffindor, not Ravenclaw. So here she is with a spell book that likely no student even thinks about looking at, ready to unleash some sort of horrible curse on the first person to threaten her or her friends.

Next up: Ginny Weasley.

Hello! I find, when using a real life model of someone in that similar pose (you will find tons especially in HP Cosplay), it makes the drawing process much easier. I also used "Anatomy drawn Easy" by Christopher Hart. Invaluable book. Its tricks are so simple that within a month you will know how to draw a human from top to bottom without a fuss! As for the shading, same, real life examples help give you an idea of how to shade. I usually set one corner in the drawing from where the light source comes. As you can see in your drawing, the shadow of Hermione on the wall actually contradict that of her body. That could be one reason why you felt that the drawing looks a bit off. . Hope my critique will help you in some little way!
