That's a very nice design for a dragon, even if you got influence by Zilla.

Haha thanks! And I didn't intend to draw Godzilla, some of my dragons do look that way (when I first saw Pacific Rim even I was surprised at how similar some of the KAiju looked like to some of the things in my sketchbook) but so many people saw the similarity so I threw that reference in, haha!

We all draw reference from different sources, so don't worry about it. You are welcome.

Well I'm glad to hear that the boot camp I call college is paying off, or something, LOL! Honestly I'm getting a LOT hammered into my head in  this Transportation Design program. And it affects my non-vehicle work too! Because visual communications principles are universal. There was a ton I didn't know about basic color theory, technical aspects of perspective, composition, etc before going into this school, so it's really helping me tune my skills. Also, being thrown into classes full of amazing people WAY above your tier...it gets you really motivated!! xD

Aaaaah you're so lucky ; o ; I'm in art college too but I feel liek NOTHING I'm learning in class is helping me improve at all ; - ; I'm only improving in my personal work that isnt' for class... Maybe that has something to do with me choosing an animation major??? Idk but I'm really quite frustrated with that. I've actually been thinking about leaving college a lot ; A ; but I really don't want to be stuck in the real world without a degree. Bad news.

I'm just ugh. Really disappointed with college = n = I'm pretty much ALWAYS the most or second most skilled person in my classes so I feel like I'm not learning anything form others?? So i have to spend extra time with my professors and stuff. It's even worse during critiques. I give everyone advice and then when they come to me everyones like "thats perfect and awesome" and I'm like "THATSNICEBUTITDOESNTHELPFSJGDJSFJSD" or they don't say anything at all and i death glare at my own art haha. = A =

edit because I worded that in a derp way XD I meant animation is something that is pretty difficult to truly master so it's not that your're in a field that isn't' difficult, I've heard the competition is very high in the industry also!

WEll first I was at Maryland Institute College of ARt, and then I transferred to Montserrat college of art. And it was the same in both places, I felt above everyone else. (this has been the case through my entire life ugh.) And it doesn't help that when I see people my age who are far above my level it just discourages me and makes me frustrated instead of inspiring me like it should. It kind of makes me feel like I was doing something wrong or I wasn't trying hard enough = n =  I hate being such a pessimist lol!

Yeah I think i've realized by now that I'm really  interested in concept art. It's quick, not something that takes a lot of work or repetitive motions like animation, and I just LOVE designing things. actaully what I get the MOST inspiration from looking at is professional concept artist's work. But I don't feel like a failure, because I know they're way older than me and have MUCH more experience and I feel like I can acheive that if I keep on going.

Unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to transfer schools again... it would be too much of a hassle. I have been getting quite a few freelance job offers, though... but a lot of them are pretty scammy because they know I'm a student = n = So that's really annoying. But. Anyway, yeah.

YOu know what transferring to Montserrat was proabably a bad Idea because it's WAYY smaller than the other college, which means there's less chance I'll be in a class with more higher level students. oh well. = n = ;;;;

Ahhhhh I see. Don't get discouraged! (Funny enough we're the same age, going by what's on your DA page :'D)
There are these Chinese twins in my class who are two years younger and kick everyone's asses! As much as I don't really like them personality-wise, their graphics and design sense is amazing, and having people like that in class brings the level up because that sets a bar for the rest of us!

Well one thing is for sure - connections! Sounds like at this point you're going to finish up at the school you'r eat. Set up a portfolio of your work, and do side projects that go more with your more concept art path! (I sorta do this too, I'm a Transportation design major surrounded by car people but I still but together a large variety since I'm interested in the movie/entertainment industry as well. And I see a lot of the top students doing projects independent of what they do at school to expand on their portfolio.) See if you can get out and meet people in the industry, get connected, show them your work, get your name out! Networking is something I'm not terribly good at, but ACCD is well-connected so I'm learning! It's the connections that'll get you places (on top of your work, of course.) See if you can grab an internship too, that'll throw you right into the working industry and you'll be surrounded by the top-tier people, I hear(from my end, industrial design) that internships are super important and you'll learn a ton there (I'm off to one this summer!) I'd be careful about the freelance stuff right away - see if you can find a way to step right in the industry~

Ahh hmmm..!! (Yah it's very opposite here. The crits are brutal and are thrown at your full-force right away in first term, I've seen grown men cry IN CLASS. They tear you down but you only get stronger for it. And it's not even about being mean. They're super honest and it's really good for all of us, I really like that system. It HAS changed me a lot though since I tend to jump right into critique mode with friends' art and can hurt them on accident, it's a little rough if you're not used to the environment)

I don't think it's your major at all, animation isn't something anyone can do well. I think it might be a matter of environment. What school are you at? If you're top tier, maybe you can transfer to a higher-level place...! It's always best to mix with the A-players, I have learned a crap-ton just from other students. (That is the worst, when people are all like "yeah it's good!" and you just wanna shake them and say NO LOOK AT ALL THE DERPS IT'S ALL WRONG because you can see something is off and you can't quite figure out what/how to better next round! )
