Y'know, you got me to look up something new, as that FB page wasn't helping; although, "the Hootenanny is the Hootenanny" is a pretty good answer to who is the Hootenanny.
The word became synonymous with folk-lore festivals thanks to its popularization by individuals like Pete Seeger, but originally meant an item of unknown origin and could be used to describe an item you're unsure of. In my search, I also learned the term "bumfuzzled", which means to confuse.
Fun fact: dA doesn't flag "hootenanny" for spellcheck, but it does flag "bumfuzzle" and "dA".
