In a Fog

Description

We've had a bit of snow the past few days. Not much, but enough that, with the cold, cold temps, we've been made aware that winter is far from over yet.

This morning there was also a thick blanket of fog hanging over the land. It was thinner in some places, but still a solid blanket from my home in Great Falls all the way out to the park.

I came in the back way, along the Vaughn Frontage Road to the Ulm-Vaughn Road, and halfway to Vaughn I looked over and realized the Laurel-Sweetgrass was plodding along beside me. I could barely see it through the fog. I got to the crossing several minutes ahead of the train and sat, waiting, playing with the settings on my camera as it approached. The fog was so thick that by the time I saw the lights I was barely able to cross the road and set up next to a fence for a couple shots.

So, here's the train coming out of the thick fog on February 15, 2009, snow on the ground, hoarfrost clinging to the grass and plants. BNSF ES44DC 7674 and Dash 9-44CW 5220 provide power this morning.
