My Norway Class Design WIP 4 by Hummakavuula My Norway Class Design WIP 4 by Hummakavuula
Took axeman3d's advice and ditched the bump mapped saucer grid and modeled it instead. More texture progress.

This one looks great, like the Norway could have been, for sure!

Thanks. I tried to stay pretty true to the original design with just my own take and improvements.

Much better looking, it looks way more cohesive now that its not a mixture of image map and modeled detail. I'm not sure you'll get away with just texture maps in the recessed areas though, they're pretty large. Maybe custom made maps, but not simple panel maps.

I gave up trying to do that, and instead I either bite the bullet and model some greebles or go for a simple geometric pattern. Greebles are obviously best, but a pain to make. If I'm being lazy I do a pattern with a honeycomb effect or herring bone effect or similar repeating pattern, a bit like carbon fibre. It makes the area either look like armour or a sensor array without all the hassle of modeling.
