She is pressing her palms up against the metal frame of the ferris wheel, a nervous smile dancing across her face. With wonder swelling along her fingertips and grace protruding from each footstep, she takes her seat. The lights from games bounce and twirl across her cheeks as happiness surrounds her every movement. She gazes up at the sky, eyes locked on the wisps of clouds, lips parted and trembling. The ride click, click, clicks to a start, crawling its way above candy-cotton stained stands. Her hands fidget, grasping endless amounts of air before she reaches for the safety of the seat-belt.

Concern dissipates from her face as the stars grow closer, humming hushed melodies in between each shimmer. The wheel continues to ascend into the arms of the stars, until there is nothing but a tiny gap between her and them. Trees reach out in the distance, pulling the breeze with tender leaves. The sounds down below become muffled, a soothing murmur of laughter and music as the carriage rocks with caution.

As the ferris wheel sighs, cradling its passengers as it descends each carriage to the ground, she is no longer afraid.

From %theWrittenRevolution's chat event flash prompt "Write a story that takes place on a ferris wheel". Which so happened to be the prompt I gave and that means I felt guilty enough to write something [at the time a total of two and a half sentences]. I was originally going to write a short story, but it turned into prosetry instead, which is just as nice because I haven't done that in a while.

Here are two of the other prompt responses [:grump: everyone else posted to sta.sh]
prompt responseMy twenty third birthday blind date
sighed when I told her,
she tapped her foot,
brushed stray misted hair from her eyes
and pushed me towards it.
The ferris wheel.
We swung, at the top, for a good six minutes.
The carnie had a glass piece smoked, took a shit,
flirted with the local girl in the funnel cake
trailer announcer in my head is telling me kids fall in love
up here, but I've got her pinky in my hand
looking at the tree tops, watching kids tossing
balls at nailed down bottles and that image
that I'd wrap her in my arm and we'd go
slowly down, and when we reach the bottom I know
the Wheel did not ferry me across the bench,
didn't bridge the gap between hips and we did not
find a friendly cloud to
close our night, and the night ended quiet and
she and I conceded quietly that we'd remain
nameless
and let it hang in my calendar as the first
wheel ride.

Burned-out SkyA shooting star
is the best thing I can remember
from that night.
Through all the neons and wiffle bats,
groucho glasses, and
fried dough,
we swam like our eyes
in shine.
Michael told me the Ferris wheel
was the best place,
so we careened
through the crowds
as runaway train cars.
Fear welled in my throat
as the line drew shorter towards
airlifted amusement.
The pendulum bucket neared
the top, and the wheel paused
with us at its peak.
The rush of fear adrenaline
slowly left me as
the back of my neck touched
the cool plastic.
I exhaled,
watching grey wisps
curl over
a shooting star.
