A doodle I colored recently of a new character I developed because apparently I needed more quirky German dudes.
Actually, I made him because Lennard's band still needed a drummer. So now they've got their full group together and I can attempt to ban myself from new characters for a while.
The original idea for him was based off of this long haired blonde guy I saw at a rugby match at my college campus. I was going to give him the name Heiko, because I freaking love that name, and he was going to be a drug addicted, rebellious kid who got sent to a camp for flat out criminal behavior.
He's ah.... he's changed a bit since the original idea, but I love this guy way more. (The only things that are really the same now are that he's a drummer and he still smokes cannabis, though he's not a dependent addict like the original idea).
His name is Mathis. He has a cripplingly depressing backstory, given that he's another one of my post-WWII Germans, but this time, Kyra switched up the perspective she writes from and made a Dachau survivor. >.> Told myself I'd never make a camp-survivor character, because I hate Holocaust fiction. Always feels to me like writers using and abusing the Holocaust for the purpose of emotional manipulation of the readers. Plus both my historical focus and writer's focus has been on the perpetrators/passive figures, and not victims... BUT.... I guess when you've got 60+ pre to post war German characters, eventually, you're going to get into that side of the story.
Mathis is a chill dude who has tremors enough to make you think there's an eternal earthquake going on inside him and he can't see for s*** on a bright sunny day. He loves pineapples so much, he named his rat Ananas (pineapple) in honor of them. He enjoys loitering around Stuttgart, people watching, drawing sketchedy-sketches of fantasy themed stuff, Gershwin music, and making totally inappropriate and awkward comments about his past as a coping mechanism. If you attempt to compliment him or say anything nice, he will get embarrassed and grin, and then get more embarrassed because you saw his crooked teeth. He looks both older and creepier than he actually is.
I have a lot of sketches of him to post soon, but I should organize them first and not just drop a giant sketch bomb. THOUGH I WILL POST THEM SOON BECAUSE I WANT ALL MY SKETCHES (besides the large projects) SORTED OUT AND POSTED AND DONE WITH BEFORE I GO BACK TO CAMPUS and die because I have two term papers to write and like 15 books to read through ahaahaha HISTORY MAJOR HELL YEAH!
