Go Crusade, They Said by HugaDuck Go Crusade, They Said by HugaDuck
It'll be fun, Pope Urban said...

Took an EXTENSIVE class on the Crusades last semester from the most bomb diggity well researched professor ever. Did this early on and planned to do more, but I don't have time for that.
Although, I really do want to draw Innocent III bashing his head against a table screaming angrily as the French derail and attack Christian cities.
And I have a major historical crush on Jean de Joinville and Louis IX, so I need to draw them as well.

Had too much fun reading all these primary sources. (Jean de Joinville is the, favorite writer ever), and wanted to do some drawings of my take on a few of these figures. Obviously, these have my bias all  over them, but I tried to pull from characterizations given in their accounts of one another.
Out of all of the original crew, I really do like Raymond. He's like the #GoodGuy who, if he were a literary character would be the perfect foil for Mr #BadGuy Bohemond. Even his followers couldn't write good propaganda about him, ugh.

My take on Alexius draws from, of course, the Westerner's perspective.. the effeminate Greeks. I also just formulated this image of him in my mind, slowly melting into a puddle of dismay and regret as Westerners run amok, wrecking up his lands as their ineffective leaders shrug awkwardly.

And then I just hate Emich.

Was going to color, but I have too many things to do, have a sketch.

I remember studying the crusades. I don't remember much else.
