“Excuse me Sir… you wouldn’t be Herr Brandt, would you?”
Florian looked up, meeting the eyes of a boy, probably around 17 or so, standing in front of his table. He was exactly has Tuchman had described, if this was in fact him… Upright posture that seemed almost recklessly confident for being where he was and whom he was speaking to, with that piece of paper in his hand. His hair was probably a tad bit longer than protocol, but was smoothed back with a few loose strands. His uniform was spotless but a bit ruffled, as if he’d been in a hurry to get somewhere, and though he stood with self-assurance, a certain look in his eyes betrayed a lack of certainty about this situation… which was good. It proved for Florian that he wasn’t stupid enough to walk into this without fear of a trap. He glanced over the boy’s shoulder. Everyone else around seemed well occupied in their own conversations.
“That would be the case,” Florian replied, a smile twitching at the corner of his mouth as he raised an eyebrow and met the boy’s eyes.
The boy opened his mouth to reply but then stopped, realizing he’d forgotten something. Perhaps he was more nervous that he was letting on.. “Ah.. um.. Heil Hitler!” Snapping into tighter form, he raised his right arm in the salute and gave Herr Brandt a more proper greeting. Dropping his arms to his sides, he continued, “My name is Niklas Schäffer, I was told to meet you here about a proposition-”
“Aha, yes!” Florian lowered the newspaper, cutting Niklas off as he reached across the table, extending out his hand in his preferred manner of greeting. Niklas took his hand a little slowly, but gave him a solid shake as Florian continued. “You’re the artist, then. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Niklas gave Florian an odd look, pulling back a bit. “W-wait… how do you know..”
“I must say,” Florian interrupted again. “I am quite impressed with your work! Tobias Tuchman showed me the piece you did for him.” Niklas’ expression grew even more confused, so Florian attempted to clarify a bit. “It surprised me. When he first showed me, it was a deep shade of red, but over time, has now turned this sort of.. black and blue color…”
Niklas opened his mouth again, still at a loss, but then it clicked. A small smile spread over his face and he dipped his head. “Well Sir,” he said with a slight smirk. “He asked for it.”
Florian laughed at that. “I can believe it!” Looking up and around again, he checked to make sure they still had no one’s attention. He carried on as he set about folding the newspaper up. “Well, if you’re interested, I might have some work for you. I understand you’ve been digging around, trying to find some recently?” He spoke slowly, raising his eyes to look at Niklas from under his brows.
Niklas replied with some hesitation and a slight nod. “That.. is true.. Felt for a while like I’d been… running in circles…” He looked back up at Florian with a look that brought a smile back to his face. So he’d known he was being kept just out of reach, or on a leash really. That was a compliment to Florian, though he didn’t need any to know that this game belonged to him. Though this Niklas Schäffer was an able player as well. He’d come close to catching onto them several times before they’d sent him on another dead end trail, which was more than Florian could say for some Gestapo he’d had the pleasure of matching up with before. He was happy to know that this persistent HJ was on his team.
“Well if you don’t mind, I’m thinking we might take this conversation elsewhere.” He’d stood up and was pulling his black leather trench coat on, fixing the lapels so they stood upright. Tucking the newspaper under his arm, he leaned down closer to Niklas has he scooted out from behind the table. “If anyone I knew overheard me talking about something like art… I’d never hear the end of it!”
I started this sketch waaaaaaayyyy long ago and just now finished it. X'D I dislike a lot about it, things I would have done differently now, but I didn't want to re-do it and just wanted this one DONE after I'd already put so much effort into it.
Niklas getting to meet Florian, after which he was quickly adopted onto the team.
AKA, "The Alliance of the Thick-Eyebrowed Political Dissenters."
Tobias is just happy that he didn't pick a fight and get pounded pretty hard for nothing...
That's another story that I'm not sure I'll get around to telling
Niklas, Florian -
Great story and picture >.<
Aaah and the story is really great too, even though it's pretty short it's very well-written and shows a lot about the characters' personalities ;v;
And thanks. :'D Hopefully I can kick my butt into doing more posts like this.
It still looks really great though, I never have luck with pencil shading because I ended up smudging everything into one grey blob XD
You're most welcome
I don't know anything about these characters but-
something tells me that's some really interesting art they've got there
he got invited to a painters' guild....
And they're gonna paint...
And spend some quality, character-building time together.... :V
that's okay, no one knows anything about these kids because I'm just now trying to get myself to actually post things ABOUT them and related to the story and not just description-less sketches..... :T
