14 years is the requirement age to partake in it. Dorcean children who wish to become hunters must undertake an apprenticeship under a veteran hunter, who can be a relative or otherwise. The apprentices cannot partake in the First Hunt without their mentor’s approval. Not all Dorceans undergo the First Hunt because not all Dorceans are hunters. The First Hunt is an inter-tribal event, meaning apprentices from all Forest Tribes partake in it.  The test takes place in the Heart of the Forest, home to many fearsome creatures. The apprentices have 24 hours to kill something.  To make sure the partakers don’t cheat(such as stealing each other’s kill), their mentors and other veteran hunters watch their progress from the shadows. Disqualification by stolen prey is a great disgrace that can lead to the individual being shunned and even cast out by the tribe.
