I was tagged like a month ago by :iconpeiyuu: and never realized it until now xD

so...let's get started:

1. What series (cartoons, books, etc.) defined your childhood?
Gah, too many to choose from! D: But the ones that come to mind immediately: Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, DragonBall Z (lol at 90's anime), Boy Meets World

2. Do you identify with your ethnicity or your nationality more?
Nationality. My parents come from two extremely different countries and so they found middle ground in raising my sisters and I in a neutral way.. So I may not know how to speak the languages of their mother countries and have no idea about either one's customs or culture....but I'm an American and proud of it. Hooray for liberty and freedom (until the internet gets censored that is).

3. Who is your greatest hero/role model and why?
I can't choose between the following three: Emma Watson, Walt Disney, and Coco Rocha. They are complete opposites from one another but they are similar in the fact that they used their own unique skills to help improve the world.

4. Do you consider yourself attractive?
trolololollollololo- nu. /forever alone *iconawkwardhugplz*

5. What is your current obsession?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I had to read it as an outside reading book for A.P. Literature but it is so. damn. GOOD! My creys! This is really sad to admit but I loved the book so much that I started watching the different movie adaptations of the books. I was halfway through the third movie when I realized that I will never get a date for senior prom but WHATEVAHS. /noregrets. (And just in case you're interested, the best movie adaptation is the 2006 BBC special :] )

6. What made you start taking art seriously?
When I realized it was something I was actually/somewhat talented at :D

7. Are you religious? Why?
I am Catholic but I'm not overly religious, which means that I don't try to convert people and stuff my religious views down their throat. Some of my best friends are atheists and I'm all for Gay Rights. My personal philosophy: as long as you are a good person and treat others with respect, you'll go to heaven, be reincarnated, or whatever you believe. Yeah, not really comfortable discussing religion so moving on...

8. What are your opinions on politics?
same thing as number 7. not really comfortable discussing politics in public.... it's not that I'm clueless about politics. I definitely have my views. It's just that people get easily offended so yeah.....

9. What do you want to be when you grow up?
An editor for books (aspiring writers would send me their manuscripts, I would read/proof-read their work and decide whether it was ready for publication) OR an advertisement designer OR a medical administrator. I love secretary work O_O

10. What is your favorite animal, fictional or real?
Dolphins, they never judge you. And I honestly believe I was a dolphin in a past life.....

In other news: sorry I haven't been updating my dA. I still intend to post art work here but you can get more updates, see work in professes, and learn about my daily shenanigans on my Tumblr.
I have survived the first two official days of my senior year - Huzzah!
And now here comes the inevitable breakdown of all my teachers and classes:

Zero Period - Chamber Orchestra
Yes, another magnificent year of having to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning in order to play my violin while being called various PG-13 names that share the same definition as the word "idiot". But I don't mind it anymore since I realized that's just Mr. K's way of showing affection to us. The only downer to Orchestra this year is that all the amazingly, talented seniors graduated and some people *cough*gina*cough* just decided to blow us off couldn't fit orchestra into their schedule.

The atmosphere definitely feels different from last year. The group got so much smaller and when you look around, you're just like, "Who are these people?" But Mr. K keeps saying that we're one of the most accomplished and talented groups he has ever seen (he said the same thing about the orchestra last  year so I'm not really taking him seriously anymore).

I was really looking forward to taking it easy in Orchestra, especially since we're not going to Carnegie Hall this year. But Mr. K shows no sign of relenting - he really wants to put our talent to good use so he's making us play Adagio for Strings which is supposed to be a very difficult piece. I guess I'm ok with it but I really really really want to get moved up! I'm sick of sitting in the back row -.-"

First Period - AP Literature
YES! Got Mrs. M - she's incredibly nice and very laid-back. We spent the first day of school just talking. She's not Mr. Hallstrom (SOB!SOB!SOB!) but I can tell she knows what she's doing and that I'll be learning a lot this year!
Goal: Get a 5 on the AP Lit Exam!

Second Period - Spanish
Love the subject. Dislike the teacher. Dislike the people in my class. It's going to be a long year. 'Nuff said.

Third Period - AP Government/ CP Economics
It's teachers like Mr. B and Mr. M that make me love being a senior! Fact: They let you eat in class! Mr. M even has an entire cabinet filled with snacks that you can just take and he later plans to install a fridge in his classroom. asdfghkj;l No more starving in school, yes!

Fourth Period - AP Psychology
Definitely an interesting subject. We already have homework but compared to APUSH and WHAP homework, it's nothing but a bit of reading. My teacher treats you like an mature adult and that really makes me respect him.  I've never had a class like this before so I'm really looking forward to learning a lot in this class.

Fifth Period - Graphic Design 2
I've been looking forward to this class all summer, especially since I've been doing some freelance work and I really need this class to help refine my skills. Mrs. M is really nice but she's more of an Advisor rather than a teacher. And what I love about the class is that it's structured as a "job" which means we get real clients with deadlines and everything. Since I wasn't in Graphic Design 1 I don't really know all of the people in my class but it feels like one big family.

The computers are also super amazing! Apparently, they got upgraded to Windows 7 over the summer and are now super fast! Opening PhotoShop only takes like 5 seconds (compared to my computers 1-2 minutes)! We even got our own sketchbooks and portfolios, and not the cheap kind either. They look really expensive and it's awesome that we got them for free.

Yep, that's my schedule. Being a senior, I can leave campus as soon as lunch starts at 1:02. Man, it's going to be a great year!
ok, so I haven't updated my journal in a while. I'm just going to post something just for the heck of it. I mean, who cares about free commissions anyway? *my sarcasm hand is raised*

BASK IN THE AWKWARDNESS OF VOLDY HUGS!!! (because even an evil  Dark Lord who-just-can't-kill-that-Harry-Potter-boy-even-though-he's-tried-like-eight-times needs love)

As a result of boredom and a desperate need to expand my portfolio, I am offering FREE ART COMMISSIONS! I can do anything from website designing to photo touch-ups. :)

please message me if you are interested :D

Things I Absolutely Loved About the Premiere
- dressing up as a Hogwarts student, dyeing my hair purple (I was Tonks), and being able to stand outside in public for three hours without being ridiculed
- being surrounded by my fellow Potter-Heads
- seeing the movie theater surrounded by huge masses of fellow witches and wizards
- making my own wand out of chopstick and a Marauder's Map
- having an epic duel in the parking lot with :iconpeiyuu: vs. our friend who dressed up as Bellatrix
- the awesome audience during the movie; Everyone gasped, cheered, cried, or laughed at the right moment. It was beautiful.
- the movie itself was perfect - from the special effects to the acting (Alan Rickman's heart wrenching performance!!!!) Deathly Hallows pt. 2 was, without a doubt, the perfect ending to a decade of memories and magic.
- the huge applause at the end of the film

One thing I hated about the premiere though was waiting for three hours by sitting on a blanket on the sidewalk. However, the worst part of the night was when the movie finally ended and the applause finally died away - you are just left with this sinking feeling. Because you might have realized it months ago the truth if finally staring you down in the face: It's all over. After 10 years I'll no longer be able to leave the theater saying: Can't wait for the next Harry Potter movie!

In a sense, the movie symbolized the end of my childhood - I have been in love with Harry Potter since I first read the books when I was 7 years old. And now, here I am. 17 years old with no more books to look forward to and no more movies. Will I be depressed? To say extremely would be an understatement. Yet life goes on. In the coming years, I'm sure there will be more fantastic books and movies that will catch my attention but none will have a bigger impact on me than Harry Potter.

But it's like JK Rowling said in her big speech during the final premiere in London: The story lives on within us. And no matter where we go or who we become, "Howgwarts will always be there to welcome us home".

without school, my life has no meaning!

i'm so pathetic...
It's strange being back in California.

After everything I've gone through in New York, I definitely feel like a different person...
Yet no matter how hard I try to explain to everyone:
- the adrenaline rush of playing your first note in Carnegie Hall
- the beautiful chaos of walking around New York City
- befriending fellow musicians from Puerto Rico, Switzerland, and Japan
- late nights filled with pillow fights, sugar induced laughter, and personal stories with your roommates
- and the sublime joy of receiving a gold rating at an international festival just HAD to be there to fully understand - to grasp - the onslaught of emotions and life changing memories.

But Mr. Kollias definitely hit the nail on the head when he said that it would only be afterwards - followed by the rest of your life - will only begin to appreciate the scope of what we have just accomplished.

I can still hear his last words on stage, intermixed with the echoes of our last note and the applause from the audience: Congratulations, you have just performed at Carnegie Hall!

most memorable moment of the trip:
The students from Kasukabe Kyoei High School of Japan were the very epitome of "poker-face". They respectfully avoided making eye contact with you while you talked to them. On the dinner cruise, the majority of them slept or did homework - profusely/shyly refusing to get on the dance floor. They walked quietly in two perfect straight rows with their umbrellas while walking back to the hotel in the rain. When together they created a quiet sea of identical, perfectly ironed uniforms. Even upon the stage at Carnegie Hall, when they had just received a Gold rating, they quietly applauded for themselves in complete juxtaposition to the audience who was on their feet, cheering and screaming for them.

But it was when me and my fellow orchestra members waited for them in front of the hotel lobby and, upon seeing them approach the hotel,  did we begin to cheer, make a spirit bridge, and give them high fives did they all being to
cry tears of joy....

I was so proud of ourselves. Even Mr.  Kollias didn't seem perturbed that we were making a public disturbance in the middle of the night.  :)

I'm leaving tomorrow morning at around noon. Words can't express how excited I am. It's such an honor being able to perform at Carnegie Hall, still can't believe that all my hard work - sweat, blood, and tears included - will finally pay off. Wish me luck you guys! :D

yay, i'm baaaaack!!! with tons of pics and presents for everyone!!!! =P i got back late last night and didn't wake up till 4 in the afternoon today. whoa, talk about jet lag!

the philippines was awesome! sure it's hot and humid, everything smells like car exhaust and cigarette smoke, and people drive really crazy over there but weirdly enough, i loved every minute of it. i guess it's because everything is just so different from America... and the food was really good and the shopping extremely cheap, which is a nice bonus.

it was great finally being able to meet all my cousins whom i've heard so much about. it's a bit embarrassing knowing that they are all cooler than me but it was still a lot of fun hanging out with everyone.

don't worry, i kept a journal so i'll probably type everything up and post it on my tumblr. that is, if i have time after trying to finish all the AP homework i put off until the last minute. bleh >.<

well, gotta finish unpacking. i never realized how much stuff i have O_O

'cause i'm going to be on my way to the Philippines tomorrow! aaah! so exciiiited!!!! my family never goes on vacation so this is big deal for us. can't wait to finally meet and hang out with all my cousins. but i am kinda nervous cause my mom is making me bring my violin and playing a duet in front of everyone D: oh jeez! i can't play for crud, why am i being tortured like this?! i haven't picked a song yet to play >.< gah, help!!!
  • Listening to: Back In Your Head - Tegan and Sara
i'm an idiot. i went to bed at 12 when i knew i would have to wake up at 4 so i could go with my mom to take my grandma to LAX. the room was spinning! @_@ and i had a horrible headache. (security kept giving me weird looks at the airport, ugh how embarrassing) but it was all worth it, being able to help Nannay check-in her luggage and to help her find her gate number. it was a bit difficult to hide my smile when it was time to say good-bye knowing that i would be seeing her again in less than a week ;) after she walked past the security check-point me and my mom had to leave since we weren't traveling and therefore weren't allowed to stay there (and a mean security lady basically told us to get out :/)

we left the airport at around 7:30. the ride home was pretty quiet, but who can blame us? we were both exhausted. so the moment we got home, i went to my room and literally passed out on my bed.

it was one in the afternoon when i finally woke up. yikes! but it was such a good nap! :D haha anyways, i went downstairs to have lunch with my mom since she had the day off. I LOVE HAVING A RELAXING DAY AT HOME WITH MY MOM! she's so cool and awesome, and it sucks that she works most of the time so i don't really get to hang out with her that much. so today was really special for me.

we had a really interesting veggie burrito (that's another thing, i wish my mom would cook more. everything she makes is so gourmet and delicious) but i liked it since it was made with love :P and then we waited for Samantha to come home from work so we could start shopping for presents to bring to the Philippines.

first, we stopped by Wal-mart, got samantha's boots, some snacks to eat on the plane (hi-chew, pocky, etc.) and bought gifts for the boys. the shirts in the guy's section were so cool, a little violent and graphic, but still cool! i wanted to buy one for myself but samantha gave me a weird look  >.< after that, we headed to Costco where i was disappointed since there were no free sample tables anymore by the time we got there. D: my mom and samantha then proceeded to buy even more stuff to bring on our trip while while i checked out the books. i was [—-this close—-] to buying The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo but i ended up deciding to buy it at Barnes&Noble.

by then it was pretty late so we headed home, had an early dinner, and here i am now, prattling away and boring you all to death…. :3 ah, wow time flies. its 11:48. i best to heading off to bed now…. ROFL!! lawl almost fooled myself there. xD imma go shoot down some ANI on AceOnline and see if i can get to lvl 60 before i hit the hay. laters....

  • Reading: Grapes of Wrath
so i just typed a reply confirming that we will be able to host two more students once we get back from our trip in august.

the first student will be arriving from Japan in late August and, get this, she's also 16! i've already had experience with living with foreign students who are the same age as me so i know this can go one of two ways:
1) she will be really down to Earth and fun to hang out with or
2) she will be weird/snobby/or a crazy combination of both therefore making it awkward to be around her

either way, my parents entire family will still force me to hang out with her, be her best friend, invite her to hang out with me, yada yada. and let me tell you, it can get reaaallly awkward having to spend time with a person you have nothing in common with. do you have any idea how weird it is to go to the kitchen at night, giggling over the prospect of  having a midnight snack, when you notice that there is a complete stranger there already? so instead of staying up all night watching TV, i am instead reduced to drinking my chocolate milk in silence while avoiding all eye-contact.  i know i should try to be friendly and make them feel at home but your house should be the one place where you are allowed to act crazy and do dumb things without worrying what other people might think. gosh, don't even get me started how weird it was when we were hosting boys and i had to do their laundry... >.<

all in all, the most i can do is cross my fingers and hope with all my heart that the new student will be like Hiro (our past student who was also from Japan. she was so cool and awesome! and i mean, she was 21 but still loved watching Disney movies! c'mon, how much cooler can you get??) but if she's into manga and anime, i already have a good friend in mind that i can introduce her to *cough*:iconluvlix3:*cough* ;)

moving on, the second student will be coming from Switzerland which is quite exciting for all of us seeing as we have yet to host a student from there. as long as she is nice and friendly, we'll be okay.

awesome movie. kinda gave me a headache but the fight scenes were epic @_@ and i loved the storyline. it was so original and they did a lot of things that i've never  seen before.
(and is it just me or did that fight scene in the mountains remind anyone of an awesome FPS game like combat arms??)

in other news, i finished ender's game and it is now officially the best required reading i've ever had to do. makes me wonder why they force us to read useless junk like The Alchemist or Things Fall Apart....
now, i am well on my way to finishing Grape's of Wrath. surprisingly, i am actually enjoying it. i'm not saying it's one of the best books i have ever read but it's way better than steinbeck's other books *cough*Of Mice and Men *cough*

sooooo yesterday, after crossing my fingers hoping we wouldn't have to cancel again (cause than that would have made it four  times we had to cancel >.<) me, Kali, Melisa, David, and Tyler had our "family reunion" at the pool in my neighborhood. i haven't had so much since summer vacation started!

but i was so freakn nervous at first! cause i didn't exactly tell my dad that i was inviting boys to the pool. but i figured he wouldn't find out if i suggested that we all met at the pool instead at my house.
so there i was, gloating over my victory, thinking, "yes, my dad didn't find ou-"

Ding Dong!

"Jeevani…there are two boys at the door."

oh. crap.

so i ran downstairs (ignoring my dad and the evil death-glare he was giving me) and invited david and tyler in.

they were sitting on the floor watching TV when my dad walked in. "hello, i don't think Jeevani introduced us. what are your... why are you guys watching cartoons???" (my dad's face ——> O_o )

David and Tyler: oh. we LOVE cartoons xDDDDDDDD

my Dad: uh....okaaay...

hahaha. after that, my dad didn't take them seriously anymore so i knew i wouldn't be in trouble anymore. it was not long after that did kali come so then we all finally went to the pool.
we had an intense game of beach volleyball and even though we completely sucked, we still had a blast xD  i brought my speakers so we had music to listen to while playing, but after awhile, we got bored and then proceeded to burry Tyler in the sand.

from there, we just alternated between playing volleyball, swimming in the pool to cool off, going into the jacuzzi, and then going back to play volleyball again. all in all, it was a pretty chill day and i hope we can plan something like this again before vacation ends :)

but for now, i'm really really tired. my legs and arms are so sore from playing volleyball all day... so yeah. imma go sleep now. night!
