Save Japan by hrtlsangel Save Japan by hrtlsangel
Due to the devastating earthquake and the tsunami that ensued, I found it necessary to break my art hiatus by creating this poster to help raise awareness and bring aid to the people of Japan. This event is especially of great interest of me due to the fact that I have several close friends who live in Japan -no one can imagine how frightened I was to be woken up by my Dad at 11 o'clock at night to watch, in horror, live footage on the TV of unstoppable waves washing away cars and houses.
Worse of all, I knew there was nothing I could do about it except watch in stunned, heart-wrenching silence. But my biggest moment of apprehension was when I attempted to email, facebook, message, and skype my friends in Japan - all to no avail. Throughout the entire day at school the following morning, I face was distorted by fear at the thought of my friends - friends whom I were close enough to consider sisters - trapped, hurt, or even worse, dead.

But my fears were put to rest by their messages; One explained how she had to stay overnight at her school because the train system in Tokyo was down. The other lived in Southern Japan and was thus safe from the mayhem...

Although they are safe, there are thousands of more Japanese civilians - young and old - who are still suffering. That is why I am willing to sell prints of this poster and give the money to the Natural Disaster Aid Club at my school. If anyone is interested in purchasing or would like to sell the prints in their own online shop (whether it be here on dA, etsy, redbubble, etc.) please contact me.

May God please watch over the people in Japan

I've noticed that most of the artwork dedicated to helping raise funds for Japan say things such as "Hope for Japan" or "Pray for Japan". I agree that one should never giving up hoping or praying but I believe that the words "Save Japan" instigate a more dramatic and stronger desire to truly get out there and do something if not anything (as demonstrated by my extremely determined friend :iconluna-ire:) to help.

We don't have money. We're not leaders of nations. We don't have influence over major corporations. But we ARE artist - through our gift to inspire and creatively express what we are feeling, we can do anything.

My sincerest thanks to everyone who has either commented and/or faved this piece. I really appreciate all the support and it makes me happy to know that so many people agree with the message I am trying to convey. But most of all, it is especially heart-warming to realize how many people - people from every facet of life and from every country in the world - are truly moved by the saddening events in Japan. That's what I love about humans: in the face of a crisis and chaos, we have the beautiful ability to band together and go to the aid of those in need. Stay gold, everyone. Stay gold.

Huge Thanks to everyone who featured this piece:

Art can do so many things: inspire, provoke, instigate - I'm glad to know that you agree with me. Your piece, God Help Japan, is especially thought-provoking and immediately grabs one's attention. Thank you for your support and compliments. My arts' only goal is to emotionally move and I'm happy to know that it is fulling it's purpose. :)

Hahaha sorry for all the spam! >_<''
And I'm very flattered!

I think it's because, for the first time, one of these natural disasters was hitting such a... like... Japan is one of the world's top economies, one of the leaders in technology, and... it's hard to imagine a country like that going through this. Not to mention we actually know people in Japan, and I'm obsessed with Japanese culture, and - er... yeah. ^_^''
(Sorry for the rambling.)
