I wanted to make a glittery white unicorn with scraps of faux turquoise clay on her back... and this unicorn almost didn't get them! I liked the plain white glitter body with the copper foiled accents so much that I was going to leave her that way, but I eventually went back and added the turquoise (her eyes are what ended up convincing me to add some more blue). I was originally going to give her a single braid among more flowing hair, but I made a braided tail on a whim and thought it looked cute, so I braided the rest of her hair as well. I also added a few turquoise crystal rhinestones as highlights, for a very satisfying balance of colors on this piece.
This unicorn was also made as a practice piece to try putting the eyes on the sides of the head instead of on the front, and I think it really helps with making her look more horse-like, even though there's very little horsiness to my ponies' faces. I do prefer the doll-like shape of the My Little Pony style to anatomically correct horse heads.
Crafted from polymer clay, copper foil, Swarovski crystal elements, and handmade glass eyes. This unicorn has been sold.
Enjoying the unicorn sculptures? I'll be making another one tonight during my weekly Thursday livestream from 7-10pm Pacific. You are, as always, invited to stop by and say hi over on Twitch. I'd love to see you there!
