Description
This entry was made for #CRArtisanCrafts's monthly challenge - the theme this month is "Space".
Ever since I made that first space-themed galaxy dragon, I've been wanting to try that theme again. The original was a good idea and I really liked her, but I thought her mica powder accents were a bit on the light side, which meant they didn't photograph very well and the resulting pictures were a bit too subtle for my taste. Which is really saying something, because I consider subtlety as one of the essential aspects of myself as an artist! So, since CRArtisanCrafts is running a space-themed challenge this month, I took it as a cue to try the space dragon idea again!
And what's better than one space dragon? How about two space dragons! These are actually constellation dragons - the larger dragon has the constellation Draco traced down her back in crystal rhinestones and gold paint, and the smaller dragon has Orion displayed across his back. I went bolder with the mica pigments this time around (maybe a bit overdone on Draco-dragon, even), and gave Orion-dragon accents in planetary colors (Jupiter, specifically, was my inspiration for him). Draco-dragon is also a dice holder, because I have several of those awesome starry glitter dice and they need to be shared with the world!
I really wanted to do a whole bunch of different constellation dragons for this contest - it would be really fun to have the entire western zodiac as constellation dragons, or to have a whole bunch holding dice in different positions. Alas, I ran out of time, so it will have to be a project for another day. Since I really enjoy star-gazing and pondering the cosmos, I'm sure this will be a theme that I'll return to yet again.
These dragons were both sold at Fanime 2014.
Mica powders FTW!
