Well, just a few things.
I am now back at home with my parents which, while not terrible, is doing horrible things for my sense of independence. It's always difficult to live on your own for a significant amount of time and then return to your childhood bedroom for a while. But in the grand scheme of things, all is well.
Currently engaged in that dreaded job search which is proving quite difficult since a lot of potential employers don't really have a feel for industries in other countries. So it's sort of like starting back at square one. A challenge, but it won't be the death of me.
I'm giving serious consideration into expanding my skillset to include web development and that is no light hope to declare. People spend years of their lives just building up portfolios; I have no delusions about this being an easy transition. In the meantime, since I'm back at home and trying to go for a career change I'm just going to have to suck it up and take on the poorly paid internships.
I'm not too proud to start from scratch. But at this stage in my life I'm only interested in the internships that will further my ultimate goal of setting up some form of digital press and trying that out for a while.
In the meantime I've cleaned up my presence on the web under this name and have begun the process of reintroducing myself to my birth city. I haven't truly lived in Chicago since I was a teenager, so coming back to live as an adult is both exciting and terrifying at the same time. I still have so many ties to England and I have no intention of abandoning them, but I do need to make sure that I have relationships and hobbies I can progress here too. It's just a matter of making sure everyone I meet knows about my situation so they can get to know the real me rather than a new Chicago version stripped of her past.
Anyway, I'll close this down now as I have to prepare for an internship interview. It's been so long since I've had one that I'm a little lost for how to pitch myself!
As always, you can find me elsewhere on the internet:
