I made 23 Overwatch Action Figures

Hi all! Here is the full roster of Overwatch action figures I’ve been working on over the last 7 months. Now with fancy images and links to each individual build.

So I started this project over this past summer right after Overwatch launched on console. I usually take on a large art project over the summer months to keep my ability tight until work starts up again in September (I’m a HS art teacher). 99% of the time I start big projects and never finish them, but for some reason the Overwatch characters were really interesting to make from a design standpoint.  By 6 figures in I started to jokingly question how far I could go with the project. By 15 in I knew I had to finish it so I did. BTW this isn’t even the longest project I’ve worked on. I did a single drawing over the span of 7 years, and another sculpture project took me 2 years (and topped off at 111 figures).

I’ve been building action figures since I was 4 years old (I’m 34 now) it came about due to a perfect storm of my mom being a pre-school teacher and having art supplies all over the house and my dad bringing home discarded oak tag from the hospital where he was a security guard (in the 1980’s x-rays were sometimes backed on oak tag sheets). I even went to college for toy design (which I fell out of/ and then became a teacher). These are paper sculpted action figures akin to a 3d mosaic with movement. The action figure base is made out of poster board and masking tape, and then covered in layered construction paper and index cards (kind of like shingles) using glue. So the color you’re seeing is all paper. The covering solidifies the figure and makes it durable. Much of the thin black lines on the figure are hair thin cut paper. I tend to exaggerate proportion on my figures, so bigger hands, feet, heads, shoulders, and weapons.  It often shocks people when I say I don’t make these to sell, most of my commissions are drawings or paintings. I sculpt primarily as a teaching tool and specifically to teach my kids how to do it.
