Night had fallen over the world hours ago, along with the sounds that came with the daylight hours. The air was silent except for the soft chirp of crickets somewhere in the distance and occasional hoot of an owl or the scurrying claws of a night owl squirrel against the old worn bark of a tree.
I couldn't sleep, unlike my four herd mates, and thought that a walk could possibly clear my head. It wasn't working though. I had too much on my mind and it was all swirling around in my brain up there, refusing to rest and to let me sleep. But I embraced the fact. How could I not? There was no point on letting the insistent thoughts irritate me.
The sound of my hooves through the soft grass is a bit calming and I focus on those, the droning if my brain becoming a bit less noticeable.
