Mandalorian Pumpkin

Description

This year's pumpkin was inspired by the most infamous Bounty Hunter in the galaxy, Boba Fett. This logo, which appears on Fett's shoulder, was originally called a Bantha skull. Later on (likely because of the obvious discrepancy with the shape of a Bantha's head), the skull was linked to a species of giant creatures (called Mythosaur) that inhabited the planet Mandalore. More recently, the skull was attributed to a Mandalorian training master named Jaing. Whatever the truth behind the symbol may be, it has become synonymous with the Mandalorians and particularly Fett.

As far as the actual cutting goes...

Originally I wanted to do a regular cut-out version (like I did with the TIE Fighter design). Unfortunately, when I was just about finished, the nose/tooth area broke. As I attempted to fix it, more parts broke off and I had to start over.

I turned the pumpkin around and drew the design over again. This time I used an exacto-knife and scraped off the outer layer (like I did with the Imperial Logo last year). The hole that I had made on the opposite side turned out to be useful, as I was able to fit a bright lamp inside the pumpkin. This took care of the problem I had last year with candlelight not being strong enough to properly light the design.
