Case 1: Hoshikawa Manor
“Yasu, have you gotten any information on this place?”
“Tes I have and some of it is interesting.”
All eyes were on Yasu as he started to tell the history of Hoshikawa Manor.
“This place goes all the way back to the 1920s. It was built in 1921 by the Seonu family, a Korean family, the womans name was Han-bi and the man, her husband, was Kwang se and they had 2 sons named Joon and Manse and a daughter, Sarang who were all in the Kyoto University.”
“So far it’s not interesting yet like you said Yasu,” Mai said as Naru glared at her for interrupting him but Yau didn’t mind.
“It’s about to Mai. Then on September 1 1923, an earthquake and a powerful 40 ft tsunami hit Tokyo and Yokohama and crippled the cities tremendously. After the earthquake, hundreds of aftershocks continued into the next day and exacerbated the situation. And because of that, fires broke out all over Tokyo and the conditions produced tornadoes of fire that grew to be literal windstorms of fire, due to the oxygen in the air, swept the city and there was no water to put out the fires and the Seonu Manor was not spared from this. It had burned and parts collapsed due to the earthquake and aftershocks.”
“Oh my god!” everyone was in shock, only Ayako could say anything.
“In addition to this destruction, some Japanese blamed Korean immigrants for these fire and killed hundreds of innocent people in the days after and the Seonus weren’t spared. The parents, Kwang se and Han-bi, were killed in the murders but fortunately the children were away at Kyoto university during this. After the funeral of their parents, the children came back and took over the place.”
‘That poor family! Oh no…so much tragedy in such a short time.’ Mai thought.
“In 1924, their sons and daughter married and all move out but Joon and his wife Sora who take over the manor. They have 2 children, both girls named Lina and Maka Seonu. In 1931, Japan invades Manchuria, China and in1937, Japan goes to war against China. Joon goes out to fight them and dies in the battle field. Years later, Sora goes to visit her family in Nagasaki prior to the bombing in 1945 in Hiroshima and 3 days after the Hiroshima bombing she was killed in the bombings with her family leaving her 2 daughters to take over Seonu Manor. Lina marries Ando Adachi and Maka marries Kenma Satome and live in the house together and that is when it changes into the Adachi inn until 1970s.”
“Let me guess, that’s when it changed into the Hoshikawa Manor?” Nashi asked.
“Yes it is Nashi. But before then more tragedy strikes. In 1956, the Satome family moved out leaving just the Adachi family and their 3 children. In 1964 during the summer Olympics, the Adachi family housed some families from China, Germany and Italy. Though after the Italian and German family left, while the 2 youngest children Momo and Tenchi away, the man from the Chinese family killed his family and the remaining Adachi family, Lina, Ando and Kagome then ran away and was never caught. The house was cleaned up and renovated to the inn you see now by Tenchi and Momo before they put it up for sale in 1968.”
“What horrible people!” Mai shouted thought everyone was thinking it and Nashi looked like she was about to throw up.
“In November of 1969, Sana and Jinki Hoshikawa took interest in the manor and finalized the sale in February of 1970, making them the 3rd family to own the inn and changing the name to Hoshikawa Manor. In 1975 they had twin boys, Sato and Kano. 24 years later, in 1999, Sana and her son, Kano, came down with meningitis and passed away a week later in the hospital leaving Jinki and Sato to run the manor but no one used it as an inn or manor anymore except when family came to visit. In 2003 the Kishiharaki family sign the papers to take over the in 2007, but they passed away and after we know what happens and who it was given to when she turned 14.”
“Me,” Nashi said.
“Wow that’s a lot of deaths here Naru, and most are murders. Are we going to have to exercise all of them or can we figure out who it is?” Monk asked as he finally spoke up.
“It seems like there is one obvious choice. It sounds like it should be Lina, Ando or Kagome. They had the most violent deaths and their murderer was never caught. Lin, look into their deaths further to see if you can find anything.”
Lin just nodded and started to type away.
“Yasu, Mai and Takigawa, go check all the temperatures in all the rooms again.”
The 3 groaned out of annoyance but started to do it anyway.
“What are we to do Naru?” John asked.
“Ms. Matsuzaki and Ms. Hara go around to see if you can sense any spirits and who. John go with them.”
Nashi was just left in the room with Naru and Lin.
“Anything for me to do Naru?”
“But…” though she was cut off by Naru’s glare.
‘Ok. Then I’ll rest.’
“Look at this. This is important,” Dream Naru said.
But it started to show something. It showed a man, woman and young girl in a room looking shocked and scared.
“Mom, dad, was that a scream?”
“No, it couldn’t be right Ando?”
“It does actually sound like a scream. There is only one family here besides us. Let me go check on them.”
The man, Ando, left, leaving his worried wife and daughter in the room.
‘This must be Ando, Lina and Kagome and their murders. No! Ando don’t go!’
Dream Naru grabbed her hand and she knew what he meant. It was all the past and nothing could be changed.
A male voice could be heard shouting and screaming.
“Lina! Kagome! Run! Get out of…ack!”
Followed by a thud then silence.
Kagome grabbed her mom’s arm and got super close to her side.
Soon footsteps could be heard outside of the room in the hall.
As the door opened it revealed the Chinese man staying with them standing there.
Covered in blood!
“Mom!” Kagome tried to push her mom away and run for the window to get out, but she didn’t move.
“Mom! We have to go!”
Suddenly she felt hands on her forearms.
Kagome was pushed back by her mom toward the man.
“I’m sorry but I have to get out of here.”
“Mom!” And then the man sliced into her stomach, killing her and letting everything spill out. But the man was so fast and he grabbed Lina and proceeded to slit her throat before he made his escape.
Mai and Nashi woke up to Lin talking about the murders.
“It seems the man killed his family 1st and their screams alerted Ando and his family. Ando went to check on them and was killed as he tried to run and tell his family. Then the man came and killed Kagome and Lina.”
“No,” Mai said suddenly and all eyes were on her, “Lina pushed Kagome to the man to…to save herself. She sacrificed her own daughter but she still got killed!” Mai finished in a shout and then she told everyone her whole dream.
‘Wait…that’s the same dream as mine. How?’
“Well this changes things,” Naru said while in his thinking position.
“The only really vengeful ghost would have seemed to be Kagome or Lina. But after Mai’s dream, it’s most likely Kagome.”
“So what are we going to do?” Monk asked.
“Mai, can you find the room she was killed in? Or close to it?”
“Yes, I can.”
“Takigawa, John and Ms. Hara, go with Mai and try to exorcise her.”
“Got it.” And the 4 of them headed off to try to exorcise her.
‘I hope this works. So everyone will be safe.’
‘Never… You shall die!!’
Case 1: Hoshikawa Manor
“Is what Nashi?”
“That is besides the fact that you can hear it playing in the room.”
Everyone at base was baffled. How was that possible?
“Lin turn up the volume and take out the headphones.”
Lin did as Naru told him and suddenly everyone heard the creepy music box playing. But then silence. The music stopped and the music box disappeared off the screen.
“It’s gone?” Ayako asked while gasping. Everyone went quiet after that, leaving Ayako’s question unanswered.
“Mai and Nashi get out of there. If it stopped, you can leave.”
“Ok,” both girls answered and Nashi tried to open the door, but it was locked and not giving any.
“Ok who locked the door?” Mai asked over the walkie.
“No one. No one has even left base,” Monk answered.
Suddenly the room shook, then stopped.
‘What?’ everyone seemed to think.
“Naru, what…?” but Mai was cut off as the room shook again. This time it was more violent and with the door being locked, the girls were trapped.
“Naru how are we going to get them out of there?!” shouted Monk due to Naru just standing there looking at the screen.
“Lin look,” Naru said as he pointed to the screen of the room with the girls in it.
Lin zoomed it and that’s when everyone at base saw it: a large crack forming in the wall and floor.
“Oh no! Get them out! Warn them now, Naru!” Ayako yelled at the unmoving Naru, but Lin was on it.
“Nashi, Mai, the floor behind you has a crack appearing and one in the wall as well.”
In the room
Both Nashi and Mai turned around and saw that it was.
‘It could collapse with us in it! What a great 1st 2 days for SPR.’
Nashi tried the door again and it gave some but then slammed shut on them and something flung Mai to the far left wall, and Nashi to the right but still close to the middle of the room.
“Ow. Mai, are you ok?” Nashi asked as she looked around to find Mai, and found her to the left of her by the wall.
‘Why is she by the wall and I’m still close to the middle of the room?’
“Yeah. Sore from the throw but overall I’m good. Can we just get out of here now?”
“No need to tell me twice. Let’s go.”
But as both girls started to get up, 3 things happened.
1st thing: the cracking and shaking got tremendously worse and things started to move.
2nd thing: as Mai and Nashi started to get up, both had hands come up from the floor, wrap around their waist and stomachs and pulled them to the floor.
And the 3rd thing…
And then silence.
At base everyone was in shock, even Lin and Naru.
"Mai, nashi do you hear me? Are you ok?" Nary said over the walkie.
But no answer. Not a sound.
And no movement from the rubble.
Until they realized things were still falling... From above them.
"Did the floor above them collapse too?" John asked clearly getting even more worried.
"Yasu and Monk come with me," Naru said before rushing off to the 1st floor room bellow the room they were in.
Naru and Yasu rushed to the room and opens the door to see nothing but furniture, floor and ceiling parts and various other parts of the rooms. But no obvious traces of Mai or Nashi.
Yasu and Naru kept calling their names and after a few minutes they hear something and saw something move over to the left by the wall.
Naru rushed over and saw that it was Mai as Yasu kept looking for nashi.
Naru got all the boards and debris off of Mai and helped her sit up.
"You ok?" Naru asked surprising Mai by asking if she was ok.
"Yes but where is Nashi? Is she ok?"
Naru looked toward Yasu to see if he had any luck and shofar nothing.
Till he notice and unusual hump in the debris.
He went to move some of the wood and ceiling pieces and he saw a body. And it was right around where Nashi was thrown to. As he kept clearing more and more he saw it.
It was Nashi.
And she wasn't moving.
"Nashi!" Yasu shouted as he dug more and Monk came over to help him.
Once she was uncovered Yasu cradled her in his arms and tried to wake her as Monk checked her pulse. She had a good cut on her forehead and minor scrapes, bruises and cuts all over her body.
"She is breathing and has a strong pulse luckily. She's lucky."
Then Mai uttered something, that through the camera, even the people in base heard it.
"She was the target. I have that feeling."
"Nashi wake up. Can you hear me?"
After a few times of Yasu calling out to her and brushing hair out of her face and cut, she stirred and finally opened her eyes.
"Ugh...Yasu?" She tried to sit up but her body protested. Everything hurt and ached with every slight movement.
"Hey you need to be careful. You just not only fell with the collapsing floor but the ceiling floor above the 2nd floor room collapsed on you as well," Monk explained to her.
She was shocked to say the least. How did she survive that?
"Yasu, carry Nashi back to base. Monk, help Mai." And Naru walked out.
'What a jerk! He was standing right next to me but no he is to make someone else help me! He is to narcissistic to even help me back to base, which he is going to right now!!!!'
But either way, everyone listened to Naru. Nashi just tested her pounding head against Yasu's shoulder and they went back to base. And as soon as they were all back, Ayako began to fuss over both girls, mostly Nashi once she saw that Mai wasn't really hurt.
"That's a nasty cut there on your forehead. I have plasters for it but it probably will scar."
"No it's ok Ayako. I actually don't scar. I've had stuff worse than this but it never scars. I only have one scar and it’s from when I was 5 and fell out of a tree."
Ayako was shocked but didn't say anything just kept treating Nashi.
"Yes Naru?" Mai answered back with some attitude, which Naru ignored.
"You said in the room that she was the target."
Once Ayako was done, Yasu helped Nashi move over to the couch so she could get in on the conversation.
"Why do you say that?"
"It's just I was thrown to the wall, a place that would get minimal debris falling on me while Nashi was thrown to the middle where all of it would hit her or get close to it."
"Nashi do you agree with Mai?"
Nashi didn't know what to say. "It makes sense...but how come the kettle exploded on Mai?"
Everyone thought but John finally spoke up.
"Nashi, you were with my when the kettle blew up. It even narrowly missed your head when it flew off the stove. That's what you said."
Everyone was shocked but Naru was still thinking.
"Mai is a danger ghost magnet so that could explain the severity but we can't deny the fact that it seems to keep targeting Nashi."
‘So it’s because of me? Great not again…’
“Naru, if that’s the case then maybe you all should get out of here. I would understand and I don’t want to put your lives in danger any more than it already has been the past 2 days.”
‘Nashi no….’ Mai thought.
“I understand you concern for us. And I will leave it up to everyone if they want leave or stay here.”
“Like hell I am leaving. My expertise might be needed as a priestess,” Ayako said.
“Ha! More like you medical expertise cause it is me they will be needing.”
But that earned Monk a hard hit to the head from said priestess.
Naru and Nashi looked over towards Masako, who just nodded and John who said, “I’m staying as well.”
Mai and Yasu both said there was no way they were leaving.
“So thank you again Nashi for the concern but we are staying her. Now let’s get to work on finding out who this violent ghost is.”
‘You’ll never find me….’
