I have began working on an UltraHD Texture pack for Doom using my own work with aid from custom filter forge filters, and also for the decor on some textures I worked from Images from a customised google search for those filtered by licence "to use, share or modify" to avoid any legal complications.  The texture pack is of massive resolution and may take a year or more to complete.

I have updated it to add Bump Mapping & SSAO on the face and tone back the shadowing around the face as I thought it was too dark and profound to look natural.

 I am in the process fo an update to tone back the shadow around the face, as I think it's too dark, and add ambient occlusion and bump mapping to the face.  The SSAO+BumpMap pass is still rendering and it will take a while but I will update this image when it is done.

The resolution is amazing ingame and there is almost perfect detail when my nose is against the wall.  I'm sure it will be appreciated, when finished and released to the world. 

This pack willl all be 2K.  I can't believe someone on Steam asked me to do 4K or 8K textures as most Doom engine ports can't take 4K  texture sizes, and no current hardware (not even a TITAN XP or GTX1080ti) would handle 8K for textures in OpenGL.

I'm assuming there's an fps hit with 2k textures, and if there is how bad is it?

I will need to get testers for it as I have a beefy system.  On my system Risen3D has constant 120fps without any stutters, and GZDoom also has 120fps, but some stutters here and there.

However I have a liquid cooled i7-4790-k @4.4Ghz, 32GB 2,400Mhz DDR3 RAM and a liquid cooled, overclocked GTX1080 (2150Mhz Core + 10,600Mhz VRAM) powered by a platinum grade 850w PSU. 

when the pack is finished I have some friends lined up with older hardware, one even with a laptop, so I can determine what FPS hit it has.  Most modern systems sholdn't have problems but I am expecting 32bit OS's would not be able to run it, as they can't utilize the 4Gb min RAM requrement needed for this resolution.

If that is the case I will release a "lite" pack of 1K resolution for 32bit OS's and.or low end rigs, so everyone can use my textures, if they so wish without the need for expensive hardware upgrades.  Low end systems handle 1K textures on Doom engine ports without breaking a sweat.

As these textures don't use external bump, specular and gloss textures, performance is automatically increased.

The updated texture will go live on this screen in a minute from me posting of this reply. (now updated)
