Walking down the street on an early morning, Eden would be cleaning her glasses along her shirt, humming quietly, her backpack hung on her shoulders, and a happy mind for the day. The girl would then stop as she heard small meows coming from the street up ahead. With a small smile, she would put on her glasses and make her way over with a giggle, following the black blur that made its way around the corner. Once she caught up with the small feline, she would kneel down with a bright smile. “Well good morning to you too, kitty!” She smiled, reaching her hand out to have the cat sniff at it before it would press its head against her hand with a purr. She would smile more softly as she trailed her fingers over the cat’s head to lightly scratch behind its ear, eventually petting down its back. “I’ll be sure to bring you food later.” She would giggle before pushing herself up and continued on walking down the street, making her way to school. She may love the teacher that taught her all she needed to know at her age, but she hated the students that were alongside her in the class. Hopefully today will be different than the last… Hopefully...
“Alright class, group up for our next project!” Ms. Alex would smile as the students would chuckle and laugh with excitement, going over to form small groups. Meanwhile Eden would simply stand by her desk, watching the students group up without even looking at her. Of course, this would catch Ms. Alex’s attention and she would sigh as she walked over to kneel down by the girl. “Eden, hun, do you want to work alone again? I can pair you up with a group if you want.” Ms. Alex would give a soft gaze, but Eden would shake her head as she smiled.
“Don’t worry about it, Ms. Alex. I can do this by myself. Besides, I’m used to this.” The girl would give a reassuring smile. Ms. Alex would softly sigh before smiling back.
“Alright, if you say so, Eden. I know you may be able to finish the work by yourself, but if you need any help, just come to me, alright?”
“Alright, Ms. Alex!” The girl gave a bright smile as the teacher would push herself up, giving the girl a pat on the head. Even if Eden was one to stay alone, or work alone in class, she always managed to finish her work. And with her good attitude, Eden was labeled as a ‘star student’ or how her classmates would call… ‘Teacher’s pet.’
Yes, Eden was just a teacher’s pet in her classmate’s eyes. Just some weird smartass kid that only friended teachers. The weird girl that would sit alone at lunch and eat nothing. The weird girl that would only play with stupid cats. The weird girl that would stand out more than the rest. To her classmates, she was just plain out weird, creepy even.. How she always… Smiled to her teachers and to everyone else, no matter what they did or what ever happened. A few of her classmates just hated it. Hate.. Hate… Hate…
To them, the children, hate was only childsplay.. It was always like that. They never added second thought into their actions. This is why Eden doesn’t like her classmates. She always felt that hate was the only thing given to her. She guessed it and saw it through all the threats and teases her fellow peers gave her. Scratching up weird nicknames at her desk, throwing balled up notes that describe how she’s just a teacher’s pet wanting attention, even the nickname the gave her that was written all over the chalkboard… She hated the nickname the most for some reason… It was like.. She was avoiding being called such a name… That name being.. ‘The BeggER.’ She didn’t know if the students wrote it in such a weird way, or if they were giving a message. Whatever if was, she hated being called such a name…
It was lunch time. The class went outside to eat near the field and river. Eden of course was standing at the bridge holding a black cat in her arms, giving it light scratches along its head as it softly mewed. “Kitty just look at the water,” she spoke, looking over the bridge to watch the running water flow down the path. The girl would chuckle softly as she leaned back to lift the cat up, nuzzling her cheek against the small feline. She was just about to head back to Ms. Alex, but she would stop as she saw about four of her classmates walk up to her with grins along their faces. Eden would take a step back in nervousness, staring at the other children as she gave an offering smile. “Uhm.. Hiya, guys…” She would speak softly, eyeing at the boy upfront, Nickolas. He was the boy that started all the nickname nonsense.
“Heya, Eden,” The boy grinned a bit. “So, my friends and I just wanted to talk. Y’know, chat and ask you questions and all that stuff.” The boy would shrug as two of her classmates would walk past Eden and stand behind her as if they wanted to block her from running off.
“What do you want, Nickolas…?” Eden would narrow her eyes as the boy shrugged.
“I just wanna talk, that’s all.”
“Talk about what, exactly?”
“Well we can’t talk with that cat around. We don’t want it to know about everything.” Eden would gasp as a female peer snatched the cat back from her. Eden would reach out to the girl, only to get shoved back against the bars of the bridge.
“Give her back!”
“Answer us first! Why do you always work alone? Do we creep you out? Do we? Or do you just want to show off to the teachers like the teacher’s pet you are!” The students began to close in on the girl as her eyes began to water up due to their laughter and cakles. “Awe.. Did we hurt your feelings? Just answer us, Begger!” The boy yelled.
“Yeah, answer us, Begger,” Spoke up another girl.
“Maybe she’s just a wuss,” Said the third peer.
“Maybe she is,” Shouted the fourth.
“Shut up and just give me back the cat!” Eden would shout, causing the students to stop for a moment. They would all stare at the girl, never thinking that she’d raise her voice like that to anyone. Of course, Nickolas decided to push it a little farther by grabbing the cat by the scruff of its neck and shoving it at Eden. She would yelp out loudly and the cat would screech out in fear. Nick grinned as he pulled his arm back before throwing the cat at Eden’s face, causing her to scream as the cat clawed and attacked at her face. Eden would end up ripping the cat off of her face, her glasses slipping off and hitting the ground after she got bit hard in her left ear and she’d do the unthinkable by yanking it by its neck firmly and freezing when hearing something pop in its neck. The children would gasp as Eden dropped the cat in shock, staring at its limp body as it twitched and spasmed in place. She could feel something trickling down the side of her jaw from the left the of her ear. Once she reached up to wipe at what she felt, her eyes widened at the sight of blood trailing and coating along her finger tips, slowly trickling down her digits. The girl began to tremble heavily as her breathing picked up, her tears beginning to swell and stroll down her scratched cheeks. Her eyes would then look back at Nickolas as the peers stepped back in slight fear.
“L-Look, Eden we were just messing around-”
“Messing around!? MESSING AROUND!?” The girl would scold, soon charging at the boy without any second thought, reaching out with both hands to try and grab him. Nick grabbed at her wrists quickly and tried to keep them away from him. As the two students were messing about, Ms. Alex would turn her head only to gasp at the sight on the bridge. She would quickly stand up from the bench and would make her way over towards the two as quick as she could.
Meanwhile that, Nick would slip up his grip with one hand, earning a scratch to the face. “Ow! Eden! Calm yourself!” He would try to hold onto Eden’s wrist again, but she pulled back from him quickly, hitting her back against the bars along the bridge.
“You need to shut up! I’m tired of all the bullying and teasing and hell you put me through!” She would breath shakily as she shouted at the boy. “Go to hell!” As Ms. Alex arrived at the bridge, she gasped and would try to reach out to Nick and Eden to break things up. Though sadly, she would fail… One of the girls, the one who took the cat, would charge herself in front of the Nickolas and shoved Eden back with full force, sending her not only against the bars, but over them, where she soon fell and hit the river with a splash. With a shrill shriek from Ms. Alex, she would run over to the bars, looking around desperately for Eden’s body. Sadly, there was nothing in sight. Just flowing water that continued on flowing down the path. The other students were shocked at their own actions, even the girl that shoved Eden screamed and began to cry in pure regret. Nickolas was still in shock, trying to process what just happened.
Spring of 1966, Eden Mariann Kelly was said to be missing. Ms. Alex told off a fib, saying how Eden ran off after killing a cat and never returned, when really, she fell off the bridge and got swept away by the water, possibly drowning on the way down, though this was just a theory... Nick and the unnamed girl who pushed Eden off the bridge were forever scarred by the event. They were more quiet in class, never wanting to speak of the horrible event that happened to their fellow classmate. The both of them were paranoid, thinking that they’ll get into so much trouble if they told a soul on what has happened.. But they weren’t only paranoid about that… There was.. Something else…
The both of them wouldn’t be able to sleep well just months after the incident. Eden was still missing.. And rumored to be dead. Nick and the girl couldn’t help but to lock their doors shut at night and sleep with a flashlight under blankets due to all the clicking and scratching they heard in the middle of the night. Ever since Eden left, the cats in the neighborhood were becoming nuisances. Always making so much racket at night, until it would stop altogether, as if something made them shut up. But what could that be? What could shut up so many.. Stupid.. Little cats..? The children in the town would begin to notice the strange behavior at night and they too were afraid to sleep alone in the dark. Of course, their parents would think that the rumors were beginning to get in their little heads. But little did they know.. Those rumors about Eden being dead.. Those rumors of a ghost girl wandering the streets.. Those rumors of the cats in the neighborhood being killed.. They may be true…
One night, just like the rest, a father decided to check out the streets due to the rumors, and due to his daughter being afraid of the noises. He peeked down the street and took a few steps, only to squint his eyes at a sight of a young girl standing on the sidewalk, holding a cat in her arms. She turned to look at the man with a kind smile, a strange.. look in her eyes. “Little girl, what are you doing out so late..? Are you lost..? Where are your parents?” The man asked, of course feeling a bit concerned for the girl all alone in the street. The girl would walk up to the man slowly as the cat began to squirm in her arms. The girl said nothing, but only looked down at the cat as her fingers lightly pet the cat’s head. The man would kneel down in front of the girl with a calm smile. “Awe.. Is this your cat? Did you come out here to look for him--” The man froze as he heard a loud snap, his eyes widening at the cat’s head being turned so suddenly, its neck snapping as the girl had a tight grip along the cat’s head, digging her fingernails into the cat’s skull, one even piercing into the cat’s eye. As the man looked up in shock, his eyes would become fearful at the sight of the girl’s face. Her eyes wide and dark, a widened smile spreading across her features as her teeth looked as if they were forming into knives, pointed and sharp. She would simply stare at the man as her finger dug deeper into the cat’s skull, her fingers even digging into the cat’s eye until she pulled it out with her own hand. The girl would then drop the cat’s lifeless body onto the ground and step over it to step towards the man, who was backing up in complete fear. “What the hell are you!?” He shouted, scattering to his feet as he backed up more. The girl would then stop in place as she stared up at the man, a low, raspy voice emitting from her lips as she spoke with a simple tilt of the head.
“I.. Am The BeggER…” Was all she said.
“Get the hell away from me!” The man shouted, but the girl would stop creeping close to him, her eyes fading into pure black as white pupils were faintly shown. Her teeth were slowly parting before SNAP! Her jaw parted by pure force, snapping open as her teeth disappeared, only a black void being shown in her mouth as she halted to stop, light hissing coming from her mouth before a high pitched screech emitted from the girl. This caused the man to fall onto his knees, reaching up to cover his ears, pressing his palms against the sides of his head, trying so desperately to block out the noise, but nothing worked… The man arched his back as he screamed, falling onto his back and beginning to spasm out as the girl slowly walked up to the man. As the screeching came to an end, the man would still be hearing ringing in his ears, blood beginning to coat the palms of his hands as his eyes watered up. The girl stepped over to sit on the man’s chest, reaching down to snatch at his neck, her grip beginning to tighten quickly as the man uncovered his ears to grip onto the girl’s wrists. She was strangely.. strong.. Too strong.. The man began to gag as the girl would keep on adding more pressure onto his throat, staring down at him as her face shifted back into that.. innocent look. That kind smile and strange glint in her eyes. The girl would only tilt her head at the man as her grip tightened, his eyes beginning to roll up an swell up with tears.
“You’re just like them,” the girl began. “Just like.. the cats in the neighborhood.” With a swift move of her hands, she let go of the man’s neck, causing him to gasp sharply for air, but before he could even exhale, there was a loud snap coming from his own neck. The girl had a hold on his head and snapped it to the side. The man’s grip loosened, his eyes pale and his breathing coming to a stop. This wasn’t the first time the girl was seen on the streets… But this was the first time the girl had another victim that was.. Not a feline…
The next morning, people were shocked at the sight of the man that was killed by the girl. The cat’s body laying limp next to him, already becoming ripped apart by small ants and rotting and such. Funny how the screech didn’t wake anybody else up.. It was as if.. She controlled it to only focus on the man… Such a tragedy. No one could even notice the incident that happened last night. That was just how she worked. How that.. Thing of a girl killed off her victims one by one… More rumors began to fill the town, telling those who lived or visit to never go out at night, and to never take in a cat, no matter what. Nobody wanted to become the next victim of that girl…
The girl they now call, The BeggER.
