Autobiography WIP

Altered book, work in progress.

A copy of Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography which has been assertively altered - each spread has been cut down to a different architectural shape, edged with Japanese masking tape, eyeletted, and some have had holes or windows punched out (for later filling with acetate transparencies). All spreads thus have views behind and beyond to other spreads.

The theme seems to be becoming the layered world of childhood, using work from early 20th C children's book illustrators.

Wow! WOW! The more I look at it the more amazing it becomes. I am working on an altered book project but nothing like this. You have given me some ideas on how to I could approach the next one.

This book was a real labour of love and ended up being sold at an art exhibition in Oregon. I was quite sad to see it go, but delighted that somebody else loved it as much as I did. It has been enormously helpful to work on collaborative altered books (with fellow artists over at #Daughters-Of-A-Dog, #Outside-Of-A-Dog and #ArtfulDodgers) because then you pick up on techniques and inspiration from other people's pages. If ever you're interested in a collab, let me know!

true artists make true work.

And amateur artists just have a huge amount of fun, because they don't have to worry about whether their work is "commercial" enough!

So wish you and I could be sharing a studio and cross-pollinating inspiration and energy for real. But virtual is pretty good. I am so enjoying your surge of Desert passion.

The cowgirl gets color at the end. Did I tell you that already? And she asserts a statement of wisdom. And there is a coda. Waaaay too involved in this one!!!!
