Pretty nice scene here man. The gas giant has a little too much texture in my opinion, i would drop the bump map down a bit. Everything else looks great, keep it up sir.

Danke.

Thanks man, I really put all my 3d-skillz into the monolith, took me ages to model it, but I like how it came out. :D

Well I'm sure it only took you 5 minutes to make the monolith. The monolith is a nice touch and overall the wallpaper looks great. By the way I downloaded your tutorial for making a planet in 3ds max; I haven't done it yet, but I think I'll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks for the tutorial.:D

Well, yeah, the monolith was quickly done. And funny enough, it was more of an afterthought. I was looking for a title and thought of 2001. Tried a funny approach. :D Hope to get a link to your first result based on my tutorial, I always like to see what people make of it and if it works for them. All part of my evil plan to make this tut series the most widespread tutorials on planet creation in 3ds max on the web. :evillaugh:

I'll send you a link once I learn the workflow well enough to get a decent result. I'm interested in low orbit scenes like your work here: [link]

I've tried to do something like that in Vue, but didn't get the result I wanted, so I'll try it in 3ds Max. I'll keep you posted on my progress. :D

I feel like the gravity here would be pulling me all over the place :spin: Both planets look great, I don't often see Neptune-like ones. But as usual your Earth-like ones are always the best :)

Is that dark rectangle supposed to be there on the landscape  Looks like it is because I think I see an astronaut near it :sherlock: But in case it was a render error I thought I'd mention anyway. I think a weaker secondary light source in blue coming from the other way (and influencing only the terrain, not the planets) would be a good way of giving the impression of blue light reflecting off both planets onto the scene too  It does look very realistic as is, but some blue light on some areas will help it "belong" to the rest of the scene more.

Thanks a lot Matthew. :) That blocky rectangle is supposed to be a monolith, a distant cousin of the one from 2001 - A space odyssey. Hence the title, more like "Oh, not another one. Theses things are really everywhere" :D Weaker secondary light, will do, just a little rerender this weekend. :)

Maybe you can have another look? I changed the foreground based on your suggestions and tweaked the texture some more. I also toned the bump map on the gas giant down, was a bit much. And like always, thanks for your input. :)

Yeah, looks way better now. Before the landscape was too orange for a place that looks like it would be bathed in a cooler light colour. The blueish lighting on it does add more realism for where this landscape is :)

The gas giant looks a bit better too, I think we can get carried away with those when it comes to bump amount, they are quite smooth-looking from this enormous distance anyway =p
