The goal of this picture was to get my lazy ass in gear and start doing art again. My new years resolution is simple. Put every month at least one picture online. So, this is January. :)

Programs used: Photoshop and 3ds Max.

This is a wonderful design, a little like the Heigliner design from one of the Dune mini-series, yet retaining its own unique approach.

If so, someone had the same idea and design like me. But let me assure you, I created this and I have the files to prove it.

Sorry man, didn't want to sound harsh. The most similar design I can think of is that of the guild ships in the new version of the movie "Dune". It also reminds others of Babylon 5 or the citadel of Mass Effect.

It's a pretty common vision of FTL "gate" travel. When I saw this, my mind immediately jumped to EVE Online - the design scheme is even comparable to the aesthetic style of the Caldari. In the end, a lot of us track our inspiration to similar ghosts.

Nope, never tried it. I'm not sure where the advantages over 3ds Max should be? Can you recommend it? I mean would it be hard to switch to Maya from Max?

3DS Max has a very personalized interface a lot of people have to completely get used to, whereas Autodesk Maya's interface is very simple and straight forward, not to mention Maya has a lot more potential, and has more features. Movies like Shrek and a few others were made with Maya.

I'd recommend it. You have a lot of talent, and Maya will help draw more of that talent out.

Thanks a lot. :) You mean an existing movie or like it could be in a movie? Anyway, it's a nice compliment either way. :)

I created the station a few years ago with the ships from Dune in mind. But yeah, it has a resemblence to The Citadel as well. Not intentionally though. :)

The space station is interesting, I could tell it would be rotating to simulate the effect of gravity. I think the lighting on it could have been a bit more harsh, the shadowed areas a nice and dark (as they would be in space) the light side could have used a stronger light source on it :lightbulb:

The planets are well done, and is that a portal to another area in the middle of the station? :O

Thanks man, all valid points of critique. It was a bit of a puzzle game this one. I had this old render of that "space station", the model long lost in data nirvana, and wanted to do something with it. I also was working on my nebula technique, so thats the background. And there's always some lonely planet lying around on one or the other hdd :D So if the whole picture does look a bit inconsistent, that's probably the reason. ;) And yes, that in the middle of the station is supposed to be a hypergate/wormhole thingie.
