Diving with Xiphiorhynchus

Xiphiorhynchus rotundus fue un pez espada prehistorico que se distinguia del actual en que tanto su mandibula inferior como la superior estaba modificada en forma de espada, asi como su mayor tamaño. Xiphiorhynchus rotundus was a prehistoric swordfish which difered from the modern form in that both its jaws were elongated and modified into swords, as well as its greater size. Whereas modern swordfish usually grow to around three meters (and bigger specimens are rarer and rarer each day), Xiphiorhynchus reached over five meters long, with the biggest specimens probably comparable to the great white shark in size. It lived in the Oligocene around 26 million years ago.
