BIOLOGY

What is the species’ general anatomy closest to, in terms of real-life equivalents?
The Aarin species' general anatomy closely resembles that of real-life wolves and canines. They have a similar skeletal structure, including a backbone, ribcage, limbs, and a skull. Their musculature is designed for agility, strength, and endurance. Their limbs and paws are adapted for running and traversing different terrains. The Aarin have a streamlined body shape, with a sturdy skeletal frame and well-developed musculature. Their teeth and jaws are designed for carnivorous feeding habits mainly even thought they stay omnivorous, and some are also vegetarians. They possess a thick fur coat for insulation and protection from the elements. The Aarin's senses, such as hearing, smell, and vision, are finely tuned for survival in their environment. (edited)

How would you best describe their movement, skeleton, and musculature?
The movement, skeleton, and musculature of the Aarin species is characterized by agility, strength, and adaptability, with some unique features resulting from their magical abilities.

  • Movement:  Their movements is marked by a combination of grace, agility, and speed. Their skeletal structure, including the limbs and joints, allow for fluid and coordinated motions, whether on the ground or in the air with their summoned wings. Their musculature is well-developed and balanced, enabling them to execute precise movements, quick sprints, and powerful leaps.

  • Skeleton:  Aarin's skeletal structure provide a strong framework to support their body and facilitate their movements. Their bones are dense and sturdy, capable of withstanding the physical demands of their active lifestyle. The skeleton would be specifically adapted to accommodate the wings, with robust shoulder girdles and additional skeletal structures necessary for wing attachment and movement.

  • Musculature: Aarin's musculature is highly developed and finely tuned. Their muscles are lean, powerful, and well-defined, allowing for bursts of strength and sustained endurance. The muscles of their limbs, chest, and wings would work in harmony to generate the force required for various movements, including running, jumping, flying, and utilizing their magical abilities, depending on what ability they have.

  • Wingspan and Structure:  When summoned, the Aarin's wings unfurl to reveal a wingspan suited to their size. The wings are proportionate to their body, providing adequate surface area for lift and maneuverability. The wings consist of a framework of bones or cartilage covered by a layer of flexible skin or feathers, depending on the aarin's gene.

  • Summoning Mechanism:  Aarins possess a unique ability to consciously summon or retract their wings at will. This process involve a series of muscular contractions and internal adjustments triggered by the Aarin's intention or focus. When the wings are summoned, they extend outward from the Aarin's shoulder, ready to be utilized for flight or other aerial maneuvers. Some Aarins also chose not to even take their wings out.

  • Flight and Aerial Mobility: The wings  enable the Aarin to achieve flight and enhance their mobility in the air. With a strong downstroke and controlled wing movements, they are capable of soaring, gliding, and agile aerial maneuvers. The exact flying capabilities, such as speed, maneuverability, and endurance depend on the size, strength, and aerodynamic design of the wings and the aarin itself.   In addition to their movement, the Aarin's magical receptors provide additional sensory capabilities and enhance their interaction with the world. The receptors inside their legs, arms, on the chin, and above their pawpads allow them to perceive and interpret various things like magical energy, vibrations, and subtle changes in their environment. along with acting as coolers during summer and heaters during winter. These receptors act as conduits, aiding in their magical abilities and providing a heightened awareness of their surroundings.

Why are their eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and body shape the way they are?
The specific characteristics of the Aarin's eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and body shape are influenced by a combination of factors, including their evolutionary adaptations, environmental influences, and individual variation within the species. Here's an explanation of each feature:

  • Eyes:  The resemblance of the Aarin's eyes to those of wolves reflects their lineage and evolutionary history. The eyes are an important sensory organ for detecting movement, assessing distance, and perceiving their surroundings. The presence of a protective membrane in the eyes of southern and water Aarins suggests an adaptation to their respective environments, providing additional shielding from water and sand.

  • Ears:  The Aarin species exhibits a diverse range of ear shapes. This variation is attributed to factors such as genetic diversity, regional adaptations, and individual variation. The different ear shapes  serve various functions, including enhancing hearing sensitivity, aiding in sound localization, and potentially providing distinct visual aesthetics within the species.

  • Mouth:  The placement of receptors on the chin and their extension from the mouth corners suggests a specialized sensory function for the Aarins. By having receptors in these locations, they can have enhanced sensitivity and perception of their environment. The receptors could detect subtle vibrations, magical energy, or other sensory inputs important for their survival, communication, and magical abilities. (See the Receptors down the page)

  • Nose:  The nose of the Aarin species exhibits some variations, with resemblances to both cat and wolf noses. This is due to genetic diversity and adaptations within different subspecies or lineages. The specific shape and structure of their noses plays a role in enhancing their olfactory capabilities, allowing them to detect scents, track prey, and navigate their environment effectively.

  • Body Shape: The body shape of the Aarin species, resembling that of large wolves, reflects their evolutionary heritage and adaptation for agility, strength, and endurance. Their streamlined bodies are well-suited for swift movements, hunting, and navigating various terrains. The precise body proportions and variations within the species may be influenced by factors such as geographic location, subspecies differentiation, and individual genetic traits. like southern aarins being longer than woodland aarins.

What does their diet consist of and why?
Aarins displays dietary versatility, with some individuals being omnivorous, vegetarian, or exclusively carnivorous. The variations in their diet can be attributed to factors such as geographical location, subspecies differentiation, and individual preferences. Here's an overview of their dietary habits:

  • Omnivorous Aarins:  They have a flexible diet that includes a combination of both animal and plant-based foods. They have the ability to consume and digest a wide range of food sources, such as meat, vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, and other items available in their environment. This dietary flexibility allows them to adapt to different habitats and seasons, ensuring a diverse and balanced intake of nutrients.

  • Vegetarian Aarins: Vegetarian Aarins primarily rely on plant-based foods for their nutrition. Their diet consists of various vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, and possibly other plant-based sources of protein and energy. This dietary choice is driven by personal preference, environmental considerations, or cultural factors within specific groups of Aarins.

  • Carnivorous Aarins:  They predominantly consume meat as their primary food source. Their diet primarily consists of prey animals, such as small mammals, birds, reptiles, or insects. This dietary preference stem from their evolutionary heritage as predators or adaptations to specific ecological niches.

Specific subspecies of Aarins, such as the southern Aarins and water Aarins, have evolved specialized dietary preferences based on their respective habitats. For example, southern Aarins have adapted to arid environments and have incorporated insects and plants like cactus into their diet for sustenance. Water Aarins, on the other hand, have access to aquatic resources and predominantly consume fish and algae.  Woodland Aarins, with their diverse diet of meat, vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, and even honey, likely thrive in forested environments where they can find a wide range of food sources.  They demonstrates dietary adaptability, allowing them to capitalize on the available resources in their specific environments while accommodating individual preferences and nutritional needs.

How do they reproduce and are there exceptions?
The Aarin species reproduces through sexual reproduction, similar to other canines. They have male and female individuals that engage in mating to produce offspring. The specifics of their reproductive process, such as mating rituals and gestation period, would follow patterns similar to those observed in real-life wolves and canines.  However, it's important to note that exceptions and variations may exist within the Aarin species, just as they do in the animal kingdom. There could be certain individuals or subspecies within the Aarin population that exhibit unique reproductive traits or behaviors. These exceptions could arise due to genetic mutations, environmental factors, or adaptations specific to particular subgroups of Aarins.  For example, there might be rare instances where Aarins reproduce asexually or have different reproductive strategies depending on their subspecies, magical abilities or the gender of their lover. it is entirely possible for the Aarin species to exhibit preferences in terms of sexual orientation, including individuals who identify as Homosexual or bisexual. Just as in human societies, sexual orientations can vary among different individuals and populations within the Aarin species. (NSFW should be kept as anthro only, this is just to explain how their reproduction works)

Their communication may involve vocalizations, gestures, facial expressions, and various other means of conveying messages and understanding. They possess a range of emotions and feelings. They can experience joy, love, fear, anger, sadness, and everything in between. Their emotional lives contribute to their individual personalities, relationships, and interactions with others in their society.

Do they prefer isolation or communal living, and why?
The preference for isolation or communal living can vary among individual Aarins based on their personal experiences, traumas, and innate characteristics. They have distinct temperaments, personalities, and social needs that influence their preference for solitude or social interaction.  While some Aarins may lean towards a more solitary lifestyle, preferring to spend time alone and seeking solace in solitude, others may thrive in communal settings and enjoy the company of their fellow Aarins. These Aarins may find fulfillment and a sense of belonging in group dynamics, valuing the support, companionship, and shared experiences that come with communal living.  The reasons behind an Aarin's preference for isolation or communal living can be diverse. Aarins who have experienced traumas or challenging life events might develop a tendency towards solitude as a means of self-preservation or as a way to process their emotions and heal. On the other hand, Aarins who have positive social experiences, strong bonds with their community, or an inherent extroverted nature may find fulfillment and happiness in communal living.  It's important to note that even within a species that generally tends to be sociable, there will always be individual variations and unique preferences. Some Aarins may exhibit a combination of both tendencies, seeking periods of solitude for introspection and personal growth while also enjoying the benefits of social interactions and communal living when they desire companionship and shared experiences.

Are there any structures in society that can explain why an individual behaves the way they do?

Basically each Aarin have an ability or several, they have powers they learn to use for various reasons

THE WINGS

Aarins, known for their resemblance to wolves and canines, possess a captivating and extraordinary feature, the ability to summon wings at will. These wings come in various forms, allowing Aarins to soar through the skies with grace and agility. This study aims to shed light on the intriguing aspects of Aarins' wings, exploring their forms, functions, and the mysteries surrounding their existence.

  • Feathered Wings: Among Aarins, some individuals bear wings adorned with an exquisite array of feathers. These feathered wings resemble those found in avian creatures, with intricate patterns and a range of colors. The size of these wings varies from Aarins to Aarins, with some boasting expansive wingspans while others possess smaller, more compact wings.

  • Dragon-like Wings: Another fascinating manifestation of Aarins' wings is their dragon-like form. These wings exhibit a membrane-like structure, reminiscent of dragon wings seen in ancient folklore and legends. Unlike feathered wings, the dragon-like wings are characterized by their leathery texture and often possess scaled patterns in a myriad of hues.

  • Mixed Form: In certain instances, Aarins display wings that combine elements of both feathered and dragon-like characteristics. These mixed wings showcase a blend of feathers and scaled membranes, creating a unique and captivating appearance. The patterns and colors of these wings can vary significantly, reflecting the individuality of each Aarin.

  • Ghostly Wings: In rare cases, Aarins are known to manifest ghostly or ethereal wings. These spectral wings appear translucent, with a wispy and ephemeral quality. They exude an otherworldly aura, captivating observers with their mysterious nature. The ghostly wings can take various shapes, ranging from delicate and ethereal to more elaborate and intricate forms.

(TBA for more forms and shapes)

Functions and Purposes

  •  Flight and Maneuverability: The primary function of Aarins' wings is to grant them the ability to fly. Whether it be through the open skies, dense forests, or vast oceans, Aarins utilize their wings to navigate their surroundings with unmatched agility. They provide lift and propulsion, allowing Aarins to soar to great heights and swiftly maneuver in any direction.

  • Magical Abilities: Beyond flight, Aarins' wings are deeply intertwined with their innate magical abilities. It is believed that the unique form of their wings influences and enhances their proficiency in magic. The feathers, scales, or ethereal nature of their wings may serve as conduits for channeling and manipulating magical energies. These magical abilities range from elemental control, healing powers, to enhancing their senses and communication.

  • Protective Shield: Aarins with wings possess the remarkable ability to utilize their wings as a protective shield. When faced with threats or imminent danger, they can wrap their wings around themselves or others, creating a barrier that deflects physical and magical attacks. The resilient nature of their wings provides a shield of defense, ensuring the safety of themselves and those under their care.

  • Astral Projection: Some Aarins possess the extraordinary ability of astral projection. By unfurling their wings and tapping into their innate magic, they can detach their ethereal forms from their physical bodies and traverse the astral plane. In this astral form, they can explore distant realms, communicate with spirits, gather esoteric knowledge, and even engage in battles on a metaphysical plane. This unique gift grants them unparalleled access to the mystical and spiritual dimensions.

  • Environmental Adaptation: Aarins' wings play a crucial role in their adaptation to various environments. Feathered wings provide insulation and help regulate body temperature in colder climates. Dragon-like wings can be used as sails, harnessing wind currents for effortless gliding in open landscapes. Mixed wings with ghostly properties allow Aarins to phase through obstacles or camouflage themselves in their surroundings, aiding in stealthy movements and survival in hostile environments.

CRYOTHERMORECEPTORS

  • Thermoregulators : Aarins use the receptors on their bodies to regulate their body temperature in  a range of different environments, This allows them to adapt in cold or hot temperatures without becoming too uncomfortable or losing their ability to function

  • Sensors: The Receptors are sensitive to change in temperature, allowing them to detect small fluctuations in their environments. This makes them excellent at sensing things like changes in the weather or the presence of other creatures.

  • Communication: The Aarin may also use their receptors to communicate with one another. For example, they might rub their coolers against each other as a sign of affection, or use them to sense the emotions of their companions.

  • Chin touching: By touching things with their receptors, Aarins can gain a great deal of information about their surroundings. For example, They can tell if a plant is edible by sensing its toxicity level, and can determine when, where and what killed the carcass they come across for the most skilled ones.

  • Vulnerability: Because the receptors on their chin are so sensitive, Aarins may be vulnerable to injury if they are exposed to extreme temperatures or rough surfaces. They may be careful to protect their receptors from harm, and may be especially cautious in unfamiliar or dangerous environments.

  • Summer Secretion: The Aarin's odorless, tasteless, and colorless liquid secretion helps them stay fresh in the hot summer months. This liquid likely has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which can prevent the growth of microorganisms that can spoil food or cause infections. The secretion may also contain other compounds that help the Aarin maintain their overall health and well-being.

  • Winter Heat Absorption: The Aarin's dark color allows them to absorb all wavelengths of light, including visible light and infrared radiation. This means that they can convert light energy into heat energy, which can keep them warm in cold environments. The Aarin's ability to regulate their body temperature in this way is a useful adaptation for surviving in harsh winter conditions.

  • Genetic Mutation: The lack of the receptor on the Aarin's chin is likely caused by a genetic mutation that occurs very rarely. This mutation affect a specific gene or set of genes that are involved in the development of the receptor. It's possible that the mutation could be hereditary, meaning that it could be passed down from parent to offspring. The lack of the receptor is a  significant handicap for the affected Aarin. Without the receptor, they are not  able to regulate their body temperature as effectively as other Aarin, which makes it difficult for them to survive in extreme temperatures. They are also unable to sense changes in temperature, which make it harder for them to detect food sources or potential predators.

However,  Aarins without receptors have developed alternative strategies for survival that compensate for their handicap. For example, they rely more heavily on other senses, such as sight or touch, to detect changes in their environment. They  also have developed other physical adaptations that allow them to better regulate their body temperature, such as increased fur or the ability to pant like a dog.

  • Colour: Aarins receptors are ALWAYS the darkest part of their body, most often in shades of black and dark gray, but depending on your aarin the colour can also be dark brown, blue, green, red, they can also have a gradient, be holographic and light pink for albinism.
