For this exercize, we were to create a mandala. We were allowed to use figurative elements, but aside from vaguely flower-esque shapes, I decided not to (earlier designs included kanji and items, but I felt it made the piece too busy and unbalanced).
I am very happy with this, however I had something of a disagreement with my teacher about it. She felt it was too simple, and wouldn't hold the viewer's attention long enough. I felt that if we were making something that was supposed to embody our beliefs or inspirations, it had to be simple, because I strive for a simple elegance in my art and life. She graded me down for it, but I honestly didn't care anymore at this point.
You can color it if you like, but please give me credit!
Every line on this was made with a sakura pigma marker in a compass.
I love the design of this. It would make quite a lovely brooch. I need to adorn an ice skating outfit that I'm doing for a Jem & The Holograms fan art picture. Would you mind very much if I included this. I will give you credit in my description of the of the finished piece of course. I'm still trying to see if there is something else that I like that is appropriate but this is the first one I've seen that I really like.
