Martha, the family maker - Part 2 by hippo2 Martha, the family maker - Part 2 by hippo2
Later that afternoon, Amelia was at night school. During a break, she met Julia; a woman about her age she had befriended. Normally, Julia was a very joyful person, but today, something was different about her. Amelia realized a strange smell about Julia. Could it be? Amelia sniffed again. Now she was sure. "May I congratulate you on your baby?"

Julia went pale. "How do you know? The doctor just told me this today."

"Er... It's obvious." Once more Amelia was reminded that most humans don't have her keen sense of smell she had kept from her days as a mouse.

"Well, congratulations wouldn't be appropriate. It was my fault. I was hit on by a guy at the disco. I guess I drank too much, but I awoke in his bed the next morning. I still can't remember what had happened that night. A pregnancy test was positive, and today, the doctor gave me the final confirmations. I guess I'm screwed now, as they say." Julia finished her story. "I only wish I could get back at him."

"Mhhh..." Amelia said. "Maybe I know somebody who can help you."

"Somebody who can help me?"

"I'll introduce you to her. Just come to the Grandhotel this evening." Amelia proposed.

Julia was excited. "Now I'm curious. Let's go there after school."

Martha visited David that evening in his flat. After a warm welcome, David bid her to sit in the kitchen. "How are you doing?" he asked.

"I'm fine. And you?"

"Well, I still miss Amelia." David said. "But it doesn't hurt so much anymore."

"I asked Amelia to talk to you soon." Martha replied. "Did she call you yet?"

David shook his head. "If she doesn't turn up soon, it's over. I won't be waiting any longer." He took a deep breath. "Martha, thank you for coming by. You are a real friend."

"You're welcome."

David took her hand. "Martha, I'm happy that you still retain your human side. Do you remember what I promised in Paris?"

Martha nodded.

"I want to keep that promise. Is there anything I can do for you, Martha?"

"How about we go out together more often? I'm a bit fed up with Sami."

Secretly, these words pleased David. "What's wrong with him?"

"He's not interested in the human world at all. I think he just wants me to be a genie like him. But I want to live in this world." Martha burst out.

David smiled. "What made you change your opinion?"

"You remember my brother? He told me a few things about how to use my powers. And he's right. I often abused my powers and destroyed a lot of people's lives. So, I promised him to use my powers in a responsible way."

"But didn't you always tell me that you are forced to grant these evil wishes?" David asked.

"Some masters made evil wishes, true. But I could have granted them in a way that would have limited the damage. I didn't do it because..." Martha felt ashamed now, "because transforming people gave me a thrill."

David's mouth popped open. "Wow. That's heavy. But it's good that you admit what you did was wrong. It's the first step to doing things better. Maybe you can undo the wishes?"

"That would need a lot of wishes. Some of the wishes are beyond repair, I'm afraid.
And then there are other wishes that shouldn't be changed. Some transformed people have already adapted to their new lives. Undoing these wishes would affect many other people's lives as well.
And finally, there are some wishes that are punishments. Remember the thief who stole my lamp last winter?" Martha asked.

David covered his eyes with his hand. "Please don't remind me of that. Sami turned me into a woman while rescuing you."

"With her last wish I got back at her for good. You don't want to have her turned back into a human and running free." Martha said.

"I guess..." David said. "Listen, Martha, I can offer you this: If there are some wishes you want to have undone, I can wish for it. Just think about it."

Martha felt very happy. David would help her redeem the most evil wishes. And maybe he would even accept her as a genie, if she could learn to use her powers responsibly. "Thank you, David!" Martha was reaching for David's hand when her hand became transparent. Another Master was summoning her. "Not agai..." Martha said before she faded away.

Interesting revelation. I wonder if we will see some fan favorite characters come back.

You're speculating about Sheryl, right?

Not specifically. Anyone of the transformees really would work.

Let's see... other than Franziska, the ones whom Martha's transformed permanently were... Marco, Jennifer, Donan, Lorraine, Daniel, Carlo (maybe), Stephanie, Hermione, Bernard, Sylvia, Amy, Roisin, Saoirse (ish), Katrin, the guard, Alex, Bella, Max and his parents, the racist couple, Anne-Laure (sort of), Quantum Adrenaline, Alexis, Marcel and Suzanne, and Frida.

Obviously Daniel, Stephanie, Amy, Katrin, Alex, Bella, Anne-Laure, and QA count as "adapted." Probably Donan as well. Marco, Bernard, and the Carlo she transformed are probably dead, and of course Alexis and the guard are. In the former cases, even if they aren't, she'd never find them, and if she did, probably would be disinclined to turn them back for the same reason as Franziska. Also likely in the same category as Franziska are Jennifer, Lorraine, Roisin and Saoirse, the racists, and Marcel and Suzanne, although in all their cases their deeds are much less odious, so she might go back to them...

That leaves Hermione, Sylvia, Frida, and "Amy's" family... Sylvia's a no-brainer, Hermione may be a lost cause (I REFUSE TO ACCEPT THAT DAMMIT)... Frida may be held better off, or to have deserved it... Amy. Lotta potential drama there, especially if she figures out just what did happen to Sheryl... and the arc's name just might be a hint...

I agree with your analysis. All persons, who actually wished for the transformation (Daniel, Alex, Anne-Laure, Quantum Adrenaline) don't need to be changed back. Stephanie, Amy and Bella have definitely adapted and are happy that way. No need to change them back either. Donan has most likely adapted, if being a toddler in mind can count as adapted. Turning him back wouldn't do any good to his mind either. So better let him grow up.

The deceased victims are lost too.

How for the punishments:
Franziska will be definitely stuck as a cat or as a statue. She murdered the guard!!!
Jennifer: Locking her up in a lamp for all time is a bit harsh. Martha might consider rescuing her... maybe not.
Lorraine: I don't think Martha will turn her back. Lorraine turned out to be a very selfish woman who didn't care about others (see her reaction when Donan asked her to use her wish to make both young again.)
Roisin and Saoirse: Roisin used her wish to hurt Saoirse and she took Saoirse possible death into account. What if Saoirse was killed by the fall? That's about Lorraines cathegory. And Saoirse is still alive and human. I see no problem here.
The racists: No way she will turn them back. They are still human and can live a quite normal life. Of course they have to stay away from their former racist friends, but that's not Martha's concern.
Marcel and Suzanne: Yeah, Martha clearly overdid it here. It will be a big desicive point wether Martha retain enough of her humanity or nay.

All in all, most punishments are rather harmless or justified. Marcel and Suzanne as well as Jennifer are disputabe.

The "evil wishes":
Frida won't be changed back. She tried to steal Luca's life and she can be happy that she is a little girl now. Martha will let her grow up like Donan.
Sylvia will most likely have lost her mind. It's sad but if Sylvia is turned back, she will most likely be a vegetable in mind. Still, Martha might do it and get quite a shock.
Hermione: I'm sure Martha want's to rescue her.
Amy's Family is a difficult case! I see no reason to change the parents or Amy back. They have adapted to their new lifes and are truely happy. That leaves Sheryl... Even if Martha finds out what had happened to Sheryl, she's facing two problems:
1) Sheryl was transformed by Sami. There's no chance Martha can break such a powerful enchantment. She might convince Sami somehow to release Sheryl and David would have to do the wish.
2) Again, Sheryl is trapped as a pair of earrings for a very long time. She might have lost her mind too, like Sylvia propably had.
The "Sheryl situation" has a lot of potential to destroy Martha's relation to Sami and wouldn't bring Sheryl back to life at all...

Very nice, would Martha turning Alex back into a human also undo Bella's wish?

Just a thought that came to mind when David suggested using his wishes to undo other wishes Martha has granted.
