Commission: Sylvania Bowowski by hippo2 Commission: Sylvania Bowowski by hippo2
This is the second commission for gaucelm He asked for a picture of his OC Sylvania Bowowski, an anthropomorphic german shepard lady detective. He asked for a picture of her with a situation and background done by myself. I decided to show her in a shoot-out with some thugs.

Cooool! Thank you very much for this!

She is looking very cool like that, and I like how you have adapted her to your style. :)
I think I'd draw her more like that from now on.

Like the little details such as the old car, with the wind-up window!

I'm thinking now: Who could be her partner? What kind of animal? What personality? What gender?

This is a great source of inspiration! I was originally inspired by the movie "VI Warshawski" starring Kathleen Turner from 1991, but this older aesthetic would look very cool too.

Actually, I was thinking of her partner early on: he would have been a young cat guy who was looking for a job, so he postulated as her partner. While she was kinda rough and tough, he would be more shy and sensitive. However, he develops feelings for her.

I read that you based the character on VI Warshawski. But I never saw the movie, I just read the artikel on Wiki.

Yeah, the nice Cat Guy is a good idea.

My idea for a partner was a grumpy, older police officer based on a French Bulldog. But I think the Cat guy is better. The French Bulldog can be the Chief.

The movie is not world-shaking, but it is quite nice and Turner is quite sexy. (her performance did influence visual representations of the VI Warshawski character...)

Yes, I think they could be a good dynamic. I'd picture the Chief as a typical English Bulldog... but trying out a French Bulldog could be innovative... especially if it happened in France!

When you do animal characters, the animal should more or less suit its stereotype... this is what you learn in character design. It doesn't matter how the animal reacts in real life or not... (I've read a nice "furry" comic called "Léa Greslin" with a lady detective who is a ferret, so she is nosy, the Chief is a vulture, so he's sinister, and there is a female serial killer on the loose, so she is a praying mantis.)

Bulldog is a good choice for the chief. I like the ears of the french bulldog. Both have the same grumpy face.
And I see your point: Sylvania as a german shepard dog, the stereotypical police dog is nice.

If the story is set in the USA, the french bulldog could be from New Orleans.

Yeah. The car was inspired by american cop and detective movies from the 70s and early 80s. Just like the original series.

Yeah, if there was more art/comics of Sylvania done, I'd love it to have this aesthetics.
