Captain of the Watch

"Okay, little ones. The new few months of your lives are likely going to be very different from whatever you were doing before, so let me make this clear from the start: I don't care who you were, who your family was, where you're from, any of that. And neither should you care about that for any of your peers. Here, we're just The Watch. And everyone out there," she waves an arm at the city surrounding them, rolls of fat swaying with the movement, "is a citizen - no more, no less." 

She paused a moment, then rotated her bulk and began a slow pace, footsteps making dull thuds in the cobblestone beneath her and the shifting armor plates providing a steady harmony to her speech. "It scritches my scaly underbelly to hear not a single restrained word there, see not a single smirk, congra-tu-lations. I see you remember the oath you took! Be faithful to the law, defend the innocent, and to do so equally to all. Nothing in there about station!"

Inwardly, she longed for the time when she didn't have to worry about all the armor, or the coat, or the silly badge of office on this too-tight belt. When she could just let her belly taste the breeze and maybe crack a few skulls. That time had passed, however. She couldn't even let out a sigh right now - appearances!

She swiveled far faster than her engorged mass would suggest, thick claw pointing rigidly amid her rippling body to one of the finer-armored individuals. "Now maybe that's not what you heard in your youth." The arm whipped to a peasant in simple garb, sagging flab swinging violently. "And I know that's not what you heard even last week." She went back to walking. "But guess what? It's our job to change that! You see, the Marquis chose a new Captain - that's me - and she has some unusual views."

The doppelsoldner paused, her body taking several seconds' jiggling to settle down, and surveyed the latest additions to her hoard. "Any questions?"

One of the nobles raised their hand. The captain sighed. "Yes, you can give me a rub for good luck."

The recruits crowded around her, hands outstretched. Oh well, it's a start.

Been spending some time fiddling around with extra-hefty armored individuals - mostly larger than this - to mostly mixed results, but there have been a few promising raws. This particular pic I've been sitting on for a short bit, just not quite feeling what the scene might be. Eventually got a bit of Sam Vimes on the brain, so there I went.

Did make some changes during inpainting, such as dropping the helmet and braids for the main character, and changing up outfit and species prompting for some of the background characters. Also separately inpainted her breastplate and coat portions, which seems the most reliable way to get a set of mixed garb like that.
