Renegade was exhausted. A week and a half had passed since the blow up with Arwyn, and the following incident with Cestmir. Being rid of the colt had been a blessing in disguise, as it seemed to ease some tension, especially among the younger members of the herd. But his absence was not enough to erase the distress their herd was in with Arwyn being gone. Gone was a bit of an exaggeration. According to Omari, the little band that had first approached them that fateful night was quietly tagging along in their shadows. Out of sight, but never too far away. Hell, he had even caught wind of his lead mare’s scent on the odd occasion when patrolling the edges of the herd. Renegade couldn’t lie that he was missing her presence. She had made his job so much easier. With her around, he was nothing more than a glorified body guard for the herd. Now that she was gone? All hell had broken loose, and it was now his job to keep everything in check. Aikane and Arwyn were feuding like usual.
