Friday, January 18th; 7:20 p.m.
Hiccup and the twins followed the hunters for several hours on foot, traveling through caves and wetlands; soon after, they could see a small dock on the side of the mountain, floating on the water. The hunters signaled Hiccup and the twins to continue following them and yelled out “Hurry up! We’re almost at the village gate!”. The 3 of them jogged over to catch up to the hunters and continued walking; once they reached the village, the hunters quietly talked to the chief while Hiccup and the twins talked with the village folk. The chief walked over to greet Hiccup, Goku, and Vegeta; afterwards, he spoke up to gain the villagers attention and announced “My people.... the tides of fate have answered our prayers! We have found three mighty warriors; whom have slain the ferocious Brachydios. If they choose to aid us in our further troubles, we will no longer live in fear of our village being attacked, or destroyed!” The chief turned to face Hiccup and the twins, then asked “Will you aid us in our struggle against the fearsome monsters that threaten our village?” Hiccup looked to Goku, then Vegeta, then he began to ponder. He looked up towards the chief and said “First, I wish to ask you something. What monsters are you looking to be protected from?”
“Our current concern is a monster known as a Lagiacrus!” At that moment, Hiccup’s eyes widened, held out his hand, and said “You’ve got yourself three new recruits!” The chief shook hands with all 3 of them and the village cheered, then the chief told Hiccup and the twins “Your hut is right behind you. We’ll have some armor prepared for you at dawn.” The 3 chose which beds they’d sleep in for the rest of their journey in this timeline; and, once they got everything situated, they walked out of their hut and saw the village holding a feast. After everyone had their fill, the village folk began to prepare for bed; however, Hiccup asked the chief what the villages’ situation was with the Lagiacrus.
“The beast has not attacked us here, but we have had many fishermen return on planks in fear. Our fish supply is gravely dropping, and without a stable supply of fish, we cannot make trades with fellow villages.” Hiccup talked with the chief for another few minutes before heading back to his hut, but he didn’t go to sleep; instead, he looked in his pouch and took out his journal. Flipping through the pages, Hiccup searched for the notes he wrote down about the Lagiacrus from playing the game and studied them carefully. He read the notes several times over until he began dozing off and fell asleep.
~~The next morning~~
Saturday, January 19th; 8:05 a.m.
Hiccup sat up in his bed, stretched his arms up, and yawned before getting out of bed. He slipped into his clothes and walked outside, then the chief walked towards Hiccup with a friendly smile saying “Glad to see you awake, young warrior! We have your armor and weapons ready right over here!” The villagers began putting the armor on Hiccup; tightening belts, clipping separate bits together, and making sure it fit Hiccup well. Hiccup looked towards the chief and said “It’s a bit too heavy for me. I see how it can provide extra protection, but it’s very difficult to move very fast in this.”
“Would you prefer light armor?” the village blacksmith asked.
“Honestly....” said Hiccup. Before he continued his sentence, he used his liquidate ability and turned himself into a puddle of water; as a result, the armor collapsed and the puddle moved out from underneath the pile of armor, then reformed back to Hiccup’s original body. He continued “.... I prefer no armor. I greatly appreciate your kindness in making this magnificent set of armor for me, but I prefer using my advantage in speed and agility.” Goku and Vegeta stepped out of the hut and saw Hiccup and the chief talking between each other, then Goku noticed something odd in the ocean from the corner of his eye. He focused on the ocean and saw two rock-like spikes heading their way, moving side-to-side, similar to the movements of a shark. The two spikes suddenly dove down beneath the ocean surface; at that moment, Goku yelled “GET AWAY FROM THE EDGE OF THE DOCK!! QUICKLY!!” Before anyone had time to react, a Lagiacrus sprang up from the ocean and gave out an ear piercing roar. Hiccup told the chief to get everyone in the village inside or to higher ground, and the chief did as requested.
“Alright guys, lets get this beast!” said Hiccup. The 3 heroes sprang towards the Lagiacrus and began delivering punches left-and-right, then the Lagiacrus began charging up an electric attack. Hiccup saw what the Lagiacrus was doing and yelled “Goku! Get outta the way!”, but the Lagiacrus had already fired its attack. Having a kind and noble soul, Hiccup stood in the way of the blast and was immediately stunned. The Lagiacrus lunged towards the twins with its mouth wide open; with lightning speed, the twins dodged its attempt to eat them; however, the Lagiacrus looked at the unconscious hedgehog for a moment, then proceeded to shovel Hiccup into its mouth with its tongue, then it suddenly swallowed him whole. Goku and Vegeta were frozen in shock of what they just witnessed, then tried to continue their assault on the beast. The Lagiacrus dodged the twins attacks and dove back underwater.
“We need to follow it and get Hiccup out of its gut before he’s digested!” said Vegeta. The twins dashed over to the blacksmith to get their armor.
Saturday, January 19th; 8:40 a.m.
The Lagiacrus jumped out of the ocean surface and landed in a hidden cavern, where a nest, holding 3 eggs lays in the center. The Lagiacrus began to force itself to regurgitate and spat Hiccup out, then nudged him in attempts to wake him up. When Hiccup came to he saw the Lagiacrus looking over him, giving off purring noises. Hiccup tried to scurry away, but found that he was unable to move his arms and legs; suddenly, a voice spoke in Hiccup’s mind.
“There’s no need to fear, dear child. I mean you no harm.” the voice said. Hiccup looked towards the Lagiacrus and asked “You-.... you can use telepathy?!” The Lagiacrus responded by nodding its head “yes”, then said “You, among some of your other friends in your timeline, have this ability; however, it’s only because you have our blood running through your veins. I’m the one who gave you blood to save you from drowning nine years ago.” Hiccup was speechless; suddenly, bits and pieces of his memory relating to the events on his 10th birthday began coming together. When Hiccup snapped out of his subconscious, he said “That was YOU?! You were the one who saved me on my tenth birthday?!”, and the Lagiacrus’ face began to light up with joy. It began acting “motherly” towards Hiccup; excitedly rubbing its nostrils against him and licking his face. When Hiccup managed to regain control over his limbs, he began asking the Lagiacrus questions and the Lagiacrus happily answered each one; then he came to a rather interesting question.
“Earlier you said ‘I, among some of my other friends, have this ability’. What did you mean by that?” Hiccup asked. The Lagiacrus hesitated in answering this question, then said “You are one of four chosen souls that contain the blood of monsters. You’re cousin, Elf, was raised by a Rathalos and a Rathian as one of their own. Issei was trained by a Zinogre up in the mountains.”
“What about the fourth?” Hiccup asked.
“That’s where it becomes complicated....” said the Lagiacrus, “you’re friend, Convexity, was given blood from an extinct race of monsters, known as the Magala race. A strange man, who went by the name Gerald Robotnik, was searching for the remains of the Magala race; once he found their bones, he extracted the Magala’s DNA and fused it into Convexity.” Hiccup took a moment to take all the information in, then asked “How do you know all of this?” The Lagiacrus’ face showed disappointment, then it answered “While Elf and your memories were altered, Issei was allowed to keep his memories and stay in contact with his Zinogre mentor. The Rathalos, Rathian, and I were able to stay informed of your progress from the information that the Zinogre gave us.” Hiccup sat down, making gestures that basically say: “I don’t know how to process all of this.”, then he sighed and said “I have one last question.... what was your reasoning for saving my life those nine years back?”. The Lagiacrus was just about to answer; when, suddenly, the twins leap out from the entrance of the cave with faces of rage. Without warning, Goku and Vegeta began attacking the Lagiacrus, but Hiccup attempted to stop them from harming it any further. Hiccup’s attempts failed as the twins were too blinded by rage to hear him, then Hiccup noticed that the Lagiacrus wasn’t fighting back; instead, it was guarding the eggs in the nest. Hiccup was desperately trying to think of a way to escape, then he came up with a plan. He rushed over to the coiled Lagiacrus and said “I need you to shut your eyes!” The Lagiacrus did as requested, Hiccup put his hands next to his face with his fingers fanned out, then he shouted “SOLAR FLARE!”. A bright light engulfed the cavern, temporarily blinding the twins; at that moment, Hiccup told the Lagiacrus to grab its eggs and follow him to safety. They swam to shore and took a moment to catch their breath, but something didn’t seem right about how the Lagiacrus was acting. Hiccup got up on his feet and walked over to the Lagiacrus and asked “Are you alright?”; suddenly, Hiccup felt a sharp pain piercing his gut. The Lagiacrus was severely wounded and was slowly fading. It looked at Hiccup; whom was paralyzed in horror, and said “Hiccup.... I can’t keep going. Please.... take the eggs.... keep them safe.” Hiccup reluctantly refused and said “No don’t say such things! You’re gonna be alright, I promise—Just stay with me!”. The Lagiacrus licked Hiccup’s face once more before saying “Back in my cave.... I didn’t answer your last question. You wanted to know why I saved you nine years ago.... I saved you.... because of your soul. When I found you drowning in the ocean, I looked inside your soul and saw the courage and strength of a dragon, yet you had the kindness and loyalty of an angel. It was, for these reasons, why I chose you!” The Lagiacrus pushed its eggs towards Hiccup, then nudged it’s nose against him. Hiccup hugged the Lagiacrus tightly while slightly sobbing; then, with its last dying breath, the Lagiacrus said “I love you Hiccup, and I will always be with you.... my dear.... sweet.... s-son.” Hiccup’s sobbing began to slowly build up, then the twins emerged from the ocean and looked down where the Lagiacrus laid lifeless.
“Well.... that wasn’t as much of a challenge as I had hoped!” said Vegeta as he and Goku land. They walk over to where Hiccup was and saw him on his knees, holding onto the deceased leviathan. They glanced at the eggs and said “Oh sweet! I’ll bet ya that the chief will give us extra pay for the eggs!”; suddenly, the twins were thrown back with a tremendous amount of force. They regained their ability to breathe properly, sat up, and saw Hiccup trembling with his fists furiously clenched.
“Dude! What are you doing?!” Goku asked. Hiccup glared at the twins and angrily asked “Do you realize what you’ve done?”, then Vegeta answered “Of course we do! We took care of the Lagiacrus! Now we can take its body and the eggs to the village so the chie—“
“DO YOU HAVE THE FAINTEST CLUE OF WHAT YOU HAVE JUST TAKEN FROM ME?!!!” Hiccup screamed. The twins were frozen in confusion, then they begin walking back towards the Lagiacrus; but, like before, Hiccup shoved them back down. Hiccup didn’t use as much force as the first time, but when the twins looked at him again, Hiccup angrily scolded “Don’t you DARE touch her!” Vegeta was getting annoyed, then he stood up and asked “Since when did we decide that the beast has a gender?! Since when did you care so much about a mindless creature?!”
“Since the moment I found out that this ‘Mindless Creature’ just so happens to be the VERY CREATURE THAT SAVED ME FROM THE BRINK OF DEATH NINE YEARS AGO, AN CLAIMED ME AS ONE OF HER OWN!!” Hiccup shouted. There was a long moment of silence in the area; the only sounds to be heard were the gentle waves gliding along the gravel and Hiccup’s furious heavy breathing. Hiccup turned around and walked towards the Lagiacrus; as he was walking, he turned his head, glared at the twins, and angrily said “Report the status to the village chief. Tell him that the monster has been slain as requested, but we plan to set out in search of 3 other monsters tomorrow morning.”
“What are you going to do?” Goku asked. Hiccup sagged his head down in sadness and said “I’m going to give my dragon mother a proper tribute, and care for the eggs like she wanted.” Goku and Vegeta began flying back to the village as Hiccup pulled out a small blade he took from the armor that the villagers made for him. Hiccup began skinning the Lagiacrus’ scales and hide; once he finished that, he manipulated the ocean current to carry the Lagiacrus’ body into the ocean to drift. He manipulated some water to create a bow and an arrow, tore some cloth from his pants, wrapped it around the arrows tip, then lit the cloth on fire. He took a moment to close his eyes and begin a prayer of his own.
“May the gates of Poseidon welcome your soul through the gates of heaven, and may the tides of the seven seas sing your name with love and pride.... for a great heart has fallen. A loving leviathan, a keeper of the seas....” with tears of pain and sorrow in his eyes, Hiccup paused to look at the eggs, then continued with a shivering voice “.... a mother—MY mother!” He drew the arrow back, took aim, and said “I love you mother! I will never forget your acts of kindness that you have shown me!”, then fired the arrow. Like a scene from a Viking style ceremony, the Lagiacrus’ body burst into flames; afterwards, Hiccup reverted the bow back to water, fell on his knees and began screaming and wailing in sorrow and loss. He cried for well over an hour before he heard a strange, high-pitched noise. He felt a comforting warmth surround him; like someone or something was holding him tightly. When Hiccup looked at where the noise was coming from, he saw a bright, blue light floating in front of him. He didn’t know what it was at first; then, like seeing the clearest sky, Hiccup could make out the face of the Lagiacrus. He held out his hand and the light responded by lowering itself into his hand, then he asked “I-Is that.... you.... Mother?” The light suddenly phased into Hiccup’s body, and the Lagiacrus’ voice spoke within him.
“The gods of the sea have given me the chance to stay by your side and guide you until the very end.” the Lagiacrus said. Hiccup held his hands to his heart and smiled, then stood up, packed up the scales and hide, grabbed the eggs, and began walking back to the village.
~~Back in the village~~
Saturday, January 19th; 3:15 p.m.
Upon Hiccup’s return, the villagers began surrounding him and trying to take the eggs from him; however, before anyone could lay a finger on the eggs, Hiccup summoned a wall of sharp ice as a barrier. Hiccup glared at the villagers and scolded “Everyone listen to me, and listen well! These eggs are not to be touched by anyone except me! I will not allow anyone to cook, sell, or kill my family! Do I make myself clear?” The villagers backed away slowly and Hiccup retracted the spiked-ice wall, then walked into the hut and set the eggs on his bed so they could stay warm. To make absolutely certain that no one would harm the eggs, he summoned a dome of water and turned it into bulletproof glass. Hiccup walked over to the blacksmith and requested that he makes a suit of lightweight armor and dual blades with the materials. The chief walked up behind Hiccup and said “I thought you said that you prefer having no armor. Why the sudden change of heart?” Hiccups answer left the chief speechless as he replied “I’m requesting this armor be made in honor of my mother, the Lagiacrus that you sent me out to kill!” Without another word, Hiccup stormed back into the hut and didn’t come out; not even for dinner.
~~The next morning~~
Sunday, January 20th; 6:30 a.m.
Goku and Vegeta were awakened by the sound of Hiccups armor being equipped, then Goku said “You’re up earlier than usual.”
“Been up all night, Goku!” said Hiccup.
“So you didn’t get an ounce of sleep last night?” Vegeta asked.
“After what happened yesterday, there was no way that I could get any sleep; even if I tried!” Hiccup replied. Goku and Vegeta looked at each other and shrugged, then Hiccup spun his dual blades like pistols and quickly set them into their scabbards. As Hiccup began walking out of the hut, he told the twins “Get yourselves ready to leave! We’re heading up the mountains in search of a Rathalos, Rathian, and Zinogre! Oh, and one more thing you should consider packing: antidotes—and plenty of them, because the tips of a Rathalos’ and Rathian’s tails are poisonous!” Goku and Vegeta simultaneously gulped in fear and began getting themselves geared up. They informed the chief of where they were headed and began their journey.
To be continued....
