It's time for more original work for the con. I'm digging into my stacks of old paper.

What to say about this.... It's another member of my disappearing dragon series. The paper was made years ago with textile ink, leaves (to make the pattern) and salt. My visual idea was to have a creature (creatures) breaking a liquid surface, and to use an opaque paint to signify form above the water, and move to a transparent medium when addressing objects beneath the water.

The result was very successful (and I should like to try it again) but the paper fought me all the way. Salt has a tendency to get into the fibers and disrupt paint, especially watery paint. The salt was accidental. The paper had absorbed it from some other paper sitting in the pile.

But well, these things happen, and it turned out well regardless. I wish I could work a bit more on it, but the convention looms, and I need to get onto other things. I'll price it high, and if I bring it home, I'll work on it some more.

Thanks everyone who looks/faves/comments :3

I love the way they ACTUALLY looks they're coming out of the water. Really spectacular.   Your use of negative spacing is soooo cool.

Very nice, I like the curve of the gold dragon at the bottom of the image in particular.

I found this in Samnril's favourites next to my Syzygy Syzygy by aegiandyad . It's much better... really accomplished, belongs in any decent favourites gallery. Of course, half the dA community loves dragons. I even have one or two in our own gallery… . Do have a llama and take a look.

Been looking for this picture forever and I'm glad to finally find it! I love the technique you used to use one medium above water and another below. I especially love the results and the pose of the two dragons is beautiful. Excellent work :D

This is gorgeous!! It's got so much depth to it and you've illustrated the transparency/reflectiveness of the water fantastically.

You are a crazy-good artist! It's very sweet, and I love how in parts they break through the surface of the water.
sockstealingnome Featured By Owner Mar 1, 2010
I think you had a very successful experiment. I almost wish there were more bits protruding from the water so I can just see the transparent to opaque transition slap me in the face again (in a good way). I would have liked to have seen a different color either as the water or in the water like maybe a green just to offset it some more but still fantastic with its twisting shapes and alternating opacity.

Have you ever experimented with gouache? I work in a local art store, and it's not something we sell a whole lot of, but the people who do buy it swear by it.

As for the acrylic inks you use, I love the idea of using them as the more opaque counterparts to watercolors/dyes.

(This picture, btw, is of course awesome. I hope you sell it for a bundle.)

This is absolutely adorable and now I think I've got something else to put upon my walls. Or I will have, as soon as I buy the print.

Absolutely amazing! :) I too think you were successful in trying to have something breaking the surface of the water. I love how the scales appear shiny and wet and how those two dragons are coiling around each other - their colours are both nice and I like their designs (fishy tails :D)

Definately worth a fave :)

I love how the things underwater seem to look 2D and flat,
while anything above water looks as though it's popping off the page.
Definitely a work of a genius!

You're a real inspiration to me! *watches you*

love how this turned out. Also like the way the opaque paint visually masks the paper texture giving it a different level of depth.
