Description

First Tutorial, and I tried to keep it basic and simple. It is geared towards beginners and is very laid-back and sketchy.

*Hatching is a very basic art technique. It's used in traditional inkworks as well as comics, foreign and local. The "preset square hatching" technique, it is found in Japanese How to Draw Manga: Pen & Tone Techniques by Ryo Toudo and is ALSO featured extensively in the American artist Gary Simmons's The Technical Pen. Look it up if you'd like to learn more, as both are great resources.

This pattern is often sold as a screen tone and is included in Computones, but you can mimic the effect yourself, getting more control over the placement.

Enjoy!

Thank you very much for this tutorial! I found it really useful when I was doing this piece. And I found myself enjoying the process in general, so hopefully I'll be using it in projects to come as well. :)
