To Filmation aficionados, this is meant to be a scene similar to what happened in "Teela's Trial", but you can think of your own context as to what she's doing out in the Sands of Time, but my thought was she went out on a scouting mission, Orko tagged along too (so long is he behaved himself and no magic tricks). As they drove one a random earthquake erupted close by and the Attack Track lost traction and became lodged in some softer sand. Shortly after Teela cursed her rotten luck, stepped outside to figure out what could be done. Little did she realize, the quake also caused a slumbering Dune Boa to stir, often nestling under the a deep layer of sand awaiting the vibration (the fins running one its head help detect such as well as aiding to store moisture like a camel) of sizable prey near by. What often happens though is prey doesn't often come soon enough and they grow more lethargic and fall into a deep sleep in hopes of conserving energy and not starve to death. Unfortunately for our peal-fair skinned firecracker, not only did the tremor wake up one such sleeping serpent, but the Attack Track became stuck just few feet away, AND Teela was standing right behind when it arose, taking her completely by surprise! Orko wasn't even looking as the Dune Boa begun to secure it's most fortuitous prize, who put up a valiant struggle given such precious little time to put up a resistance.
So what do you think of the name? I think in the Dark Horse MOTU Universe world guide they gave it a boring name like just Sand Serpent or such. I though Dune Boa rolled off the tongue better.
Thanks again, love how it all turned out
