Now otoh, I am happy with how the interior pages came out. It started life as am old pad of drawing paper that was folded, tediously brushed with steel wool dissolved in vinegar, wiped down to soften the color, then the even more tediously process of stiching it all together. My only regret is I should have weathered the edges of the pages a lot more.

One of these days I'll work up the nerve to start adding artwork inside. I'm better at drawing cartoon characters than mystical symbols. ^_^;

Did you use a specific type of vinegar?

Oops, sorry I didn't see this sooner. I just use plain old white vinegar.

You never know til you try. I suspect it would smell better at least. :)

Am I understanding this right you dunked a brillo pad in vinegar, waited for it to dissolve, and then brushed the paper with the solution?

Yep, though its steel wool rather than Brillo pads (same thing really but without the soap). You basically end up with a jar of liquid rust that you can use to discolor metal, and age paper or wood. Just be sure to get real steel wool. A lot of the cheap imported stuff uses othe rmetals that don't dissolve in vinegar.

Good to be on the other side of the pond where they still believe in steel, then ;). I should have a pack of soap-less steel wool pads, one of them rusted pretty well on my kitchen sink already ;).

Yes I know, I just worry about screwing it up. Theres such a fine line between dark and mysterious, and silly.

o heck yes.
I've been trying to balance illustration out with ephemera and other things. I scan in so much resource imagery it's ridiculous.
